WT "Temporary Mobility Kit"

Any owners of a WT that has the new "Temporary Mobility Kit" instead of a spare wheel definitely know if this is supposed to be a temporary fix as in the brochure or supposed to be a permanent fix???

Ford Dealer was under impression that it was a permant fix but brochure states not to drive over 80km/hr and to get it repaired asap??????

As i am purchasing after market wheels i thought i might hold back on one of the standard rims to use instead as the kit includes an aerosol can and a small compressor!!!!!!

Any help would be appreciated, Rick.........

IMO, the temporary mobility kit is just that, 'Temporary'. Get the wheel to a repairer and get it fixed/replaced. The only issue you will have is if you get a full on blowout(ie tyre blows out the side and tread rips off worst case scenario) at which point a spare would be far more useful. Look into getting a space save spare, as a full alloy/wheel will take up most of your boot. I know one of the guys on fordxr5turbo.com who bought an RS has just bought an XR5 set of spare and jack and all that...it raises the boot up a little, but better that than being stuck 400km from home middle of nowhere and the 'temporary mobility kit' being useless to you.

that's how I would look at it anyway.

my WS Econetic has a mobility kit. For mine at least, it advises that it is a temporary measure to get you to a tyre place only, to have your tyre replaced - not repaired. Apparently the tyre cannot be fixed once the goo has gone in it, confirmed by the Ford tow truck driver who collected my car after my tyre came off second best against a pot hole (along with the rim).

So, unless WT's have a different kit, I would suggest a roadside assistance membership so you don't ruin an otherwise usable tyre with the repair kit.

Is there space to put a spare wheel? Surely there is still space there. You can get a temp wheel for about $80 to through in there. Never had to use mine (touch wood) but I'm thankful to have it all the same.

The spare wheel well is still there - instead of a tyre it just has foam packing with the kit in it.

I have my original wheels so i am right for the wheel, but also have to remember will need a jack and brace in the car.

Yes, it seems that it is only a temporary fix and the goo does ruin the tyre so i wont be upgrading to any expensive tyres too soon. i did ask for the original rims to be returned after fitting the CSA's so i will put a cheap tyre on it for emergency use/long trips if it doesnt take up too much room................. also trying to get free roadside assistance as they are saying it doesnt come free for imported cars!!!!!!!! I've had it on my Focus for past 4 years so go figure???????

the complimentary roadside assistance is for ANY Ford (new or used, aus or not) under 7 years old having a Ford scheduled service done. Don't let your service department tell you otherwise.

My Econetic doesn't have ford roadside service......

It has a dealer one (30km radius only) which is rather useless for the travelling I do (28000km in 7 months)
