Hello to anyone who would like to challenge themselves.
I have a 1998 Kj laser running low boost turbo, plumb back BOV, new heavy duty clutch, new wolf v500 ecu to name a few of the mods. The car is tuned so beautifully you would have no idea it was aftermarket except for cold starts. it will either start then stall and this may take 3 goes. if it doesn't want to stall on the second go it will bubble then the idle speed motor will catch it and rev it up to 3000rpm and throw out a puff of white smoke of unburnt fuel.  : Tuning the start felt like we were chasing our tails on getting it even close to being right. could it be the idle speed motor? oxy sensor? crank angle sensor? the car is awesome but this is just a little annoying. any imput at all would be marvelous. |

Hey,
If you don't get a response on here go on to www.fordlaser.com and talk to the fella's there... They should be able to give you an answer very quickly... Im not to sure on your problem as i haven't got after market computer but will be looking at getting on early next year... Anyways good luck... Laser_power |

Since you have an aftermarket computer I would suggest giving it extra timing at low speeds (ie. below 1000rpm, give it extra ignition timing the slower it goes). This is because more timing advance tends to speed up the engine. Im presuming you have your fuel mixtures pretty much spot on and cold start enrichment is good?

Laser power actually registered on www.fordlaser.com I just visit ford forums more cos I'm with ALL FORD CLUB QLD. a problem shared is problem halved. Goodluck with your mods hope it's easier for you than it is with me lol Coop1er Yeah fuel has to be spot on other wise if it's too rich it spits it's guts all over the Garage floor. I think timing is good because it was the inconsistancy of it all that it had to be something else besides a software issue. Found out out it was the idle speed motor, well so far unless something else decides to spit the dummy.$1000 on a genuine ford laser one. (no aftermarket) we are thinking of tuning the idle speed alone straight from the ECU? what do you think? So hope your idle speed motors are ok! |
