Default E85!!

ACA Chanel 9 just had an article which stated that all current Commodores can run on E85. Anybody know about this? Am I way behind the times? Of course, E85 is an 85% ethanol and 15% petrol blend.

I have heard about the Commodores being E85 compatible before. I think they advertised it.

I got some E10 in my mouth a few months ago and it tasted like rough vodka. I'll have to taste test the E85. Gotta be better.

summary of the ACA story
Lady goes to servo, has multiple choices of fuel types, makes a decision ignoring the warnings, lifts the release handle with a warning sticker on it which no other bowser nozzle has, fills car with the fuel with the cheapest price, pays for fuel, drives off, notices car not operating correctly, takes car to mechanic, mechanic accurately finds E85 in tank and fixes car, gives lady a bill, Lady goes to ACA hoping to get a story portraying her as the victim in an attempt to get money back, The end.

ratter, your story was exactly the same as the ACA story but for the cost of repairs. Over $600. Ouch, costly brain fade. Or was your story the ACA story?

far out people are stupid.

but yes, all current 2012 (even some late 2011) SV6 and SS models (and the poverty pack ones) are e85 ready. so the 3L SIDI (cant pull the skin off rice custard) the 3.6 SIDI (would scare a FG falcon, possibly faster too) and the 6 litre v8 can all use e85.

its specifically marked on the SS with a FAT e85 badge on the boot. not sure on the 6s.

benefits include extra torque and power esp in midrange, cheaper fuel, cons include some scary consumption figures in the 6 and 8 (20 litres or more/100)

And the good news is the lady in the story can vote. And drive. On the same roads as us. At 110. Truly scary.....

The E85 nozzels have massive signs and warnings on them. Only a complete moron could bypass all these and "accidentally" wreck their engine.

Yep New commodores can run e85. I know the SS's are now running 2 fuel pumps and upgraded lines to be able to pump the fuel through.

That reminds me of what they did in the IndyCar series. The fuel they use is only 98% ethanol. The reason is so the fuel isn't used for human consumption.

Every time someone comes out with a list of cars that can't use ethanol blends, green groups say that it's just scare-mongering and everyone should be using it...not surprising that some people would see it and think "wow, it must be great stuff".

Welp, that's what people get for using an energy-negative heavily subsidised "fuel" that makes your car get worse economy...which is somehow better for the environment...

That and the fact that you have to ignore the problems ethanol production is creating around the world...you know, trivial ones like driving up the price of corn and other grains to levels that are causing food shortages in poorer countries...nothing major though...

As opposed to sucking the earth dry of oil, and being totally dependant on it?

And the damaged caused buy oil extraction, not only on the land, but the oil spills and toxins released in its production?

I suppose you can just sit back and claim ethanol is evil, have the blinders on and ignore the fact that one day, oil-based fuels need replacement. Or you can be like Brazil, who for years have success with bio fuels...

Its funny, that food prices have risen and fallen without ethanol production...so it alone is not the major factor. Droughts still play a major factor in the cost of food, and it was this plus the extra demand for bio-fuel that created a spike in prices...

And it can be made from the mostly unused waste from food production...

So, yeah, i guess it's all OK to accuse Ethanol of being the big evil, while relying on unsustainable fossil fuels...

The way Brazil makes its biofuels is no better than the way the real stuff is pulled from the ground.
