I really liked that. For that part of the market which is hot (dual cabs) they've gone and emphasised all the functionality - just like they did with the Terry all those years ago. They showed how versatile it would be for the urban/getaway lifestyle.

I did lol at 4 1/2ft tray, 6ft with the tailgate down. My smallest board is 5'10" and they go up to 9'6" so yeah that's not going to work...

If only Terry was still alive and got all the drivetrain and tech goodies this functional dual cab has got...

If only we got this (and their other utes and SUVs here)

It saddens me to think between say add South Africa, Thailand, India, NZ, UK and obviously Australia, Ford Australia may have had enough sales for Territory to make a case for 120,000 units per year out of Campbellfield.

Asia and India are closed shops, a 66% import duty was applied to Territory
by Thailand the day after the FTA. Ford realised that it couldn’t manufacture
Focus or Territory in Australia and export to Asia.

Our automotive trade with Asia was only ever to be us importing their products.

I get your point with comparing our diesel Ranger with the US gasoline F150.

When I did the comparison, it was 4x4 XLT crew cab gasoline to 4x4 XLT crew cab gasoline
so I used the American Ranger XLT 4x4 crew cab Ranger, it’s weight is 4441 lbs (1982 Kg)
You can see there’s 450 lbs difference there which is close to what I originally said.

But yeah, that diesel Wildtrak Ranger is quite heavy…..
the diesel 4x4XLT Ranger crew cab is 4,760 lbs (2,160 Kg)

It is, the 2.0 Wildtrak is 60 Kg lighter at 2,200 kg but equally that’s only 40 Kg heavier than the US XLT Crew 4x4.
It all matches up and circling back, your point on the F150’s close weight thanks to Aluminium is commendable.
The aluminium body and lighter frame dropped weight by 700 lbs (~315Kg) is where big savings were made.

As I said earlier, there have been a number of Falcon utes floating around Dearborn in the last couple of years. It's no coincidence.

NA is a big market though. There’s room for all 3. They’re also marketing it differently to the Ranger. More of an inner city or first truck for young drivers. It’s also a hybrid that costs less than a Corolla.
Ford Australia would never be that aggressive with pricing.

I think Ranger at 4 cylinder only in NA has a role as a genuine light duty work vehicle. The Mav is definitely an alternative for some but has no genuine work ability. Its fanatastic dont get me wrong, however I can see all three staying.

Nah. The Mav only has little engines and is very light duty. And you are forgetting that it's built in the same factory as the Bronco, so it's good for economy of scale and keeping costs down between the 2 vehicles using a lot of common parts.

Just like the Maverick is built alongside the Bronco Sport, and shares a lot of common parts.

They sell over 40,000 Rangers a year, and it's the 2nd best selling mid size truck, so the Maverick is not really a comparable product.

Any way, the new US Ranger goes into production in 2023.

While the current US Ranger was called up late in the program, it’s proven to be a good package
and while it hasn’t put a dent in Tacoma’s sales, Colorado sales have declined significantly.
