Default New Focus owner confused

Ok, really new, like i get it Tuesday

Just put a deposit on a 2004 LX Focus today after waiting for 6 months to buy it!

One thing that has me curious - do all LX motors have Zetec 16V printed on them, or have i managed to score one upgraded to a Zetec? I can't say i've looked at too many motors so i've no idea if this is normal or not.

Oh, and what's the first thing i should do to my new Focus to make it less 'stock'?

Ta!

Ha ha, the 2 best and cheapest mods you can do are;

- Fit the ST170 clear side indicators ($4 each lens from Ford Spare Parts, plus bulbs for around $10 the pair)

- Fit a K&N Panel Filter in lieu of the standard compressed paper fibre filter. Should be less than $90. Both take 5-10 minutes to fit, and give you that subtle difference.

After that you could perhaps enjoy it for a while and see what you feel it needs, whether you want to go down the exhaust pathway, the suspension lowering, bigger wheels, whatever please you. Most people end up with an exhaust and then a large number go for lower suspension, especially in the non-Zetec models which don't come with slightly sportier suspension unlike the Zetec. There's still plenty of us Zetec owners though with exhausts and suspension, seems nothing's ever enough!!! He he

Congrats, welcome and enjoy!!

I had no plans to do ANYTHING to my car before reading this forum. Curse you all!!

Actually, first thing to do will be to peel the dealership sticker from the back window : Side indicators and filter look to be a good place to start, thanks guys! I have the Ink Blue, so would the crystal or smoke look better? Can anyone point me to pics of both to compare? I really want to do the tail lights, and get a body kit too. Gee, um, am i a chick obsessed with looks over performance? _

And back2thefutura - no way!! :hihi:

Haha, all is forgiven cos you have Ink Blue. Only the Best have Ink Blue.

I have the clear side indicators (not smoked) and they look great, a vast improvement over the stock orange blobs. Clear on Ink Blue looks spot on.

Im assuming its a hatch?

I think you've been searching Ebay too much, or checking the ford focus owner's club website too much! Official Ford units are a clear plastic, GENUINE part, cheaper than any other available and in my books, the ONLY choice!! Would never settle for some dodgy aftermarket part like that, not when the Ford bit is better, cheaper and built to a guaranteed trusted quality!

Some ST-lover had to say that!!... Australia doesn't appreciate a good car when it drives up to them, runs them over, breaks their leg and flashes it's high beams at them.

Why else do Corollas still sell?!! Besides, $60k would have been a lot to pay for a Turbo Focus.

At least the Zetec is closer to the RS in what it shares than the ST... we have the same gearbox, the same base 2.0L block and now the same indicators on mine!!

Nic,

the ST170 Side indicators (the clear ones) are like $7 each BRAND NEW from Ford with bulbs, so just buy em direct from Ford. Cheapest Genuine Ford Part you'll ever find :P.

If you want some and have trouble getting them, Im sure one of the members here can help out. I'll get them for you if you get really stuck.

Oh, and to give you some ideas........ (scuse the stock ride height)

Ha ha ha my bad Nic. You'll soon learn Chris and my love for each other. World would be a boring place without a little spirited competition!

Clearly Chris took offence so I apologise and have edited my post.

Please remember to show respect to the mods on the forums, regardless. Chris is a mod, there should be no need to request some basic decency for that. Cheers for the edit.

The fact is, the clear side indicators from Ford are ST170 parts and are a bargain price, so I recommend sourcing them thru Ford for your Focus, Nic. They will look great!

Was just wondering, would the ST170 bumpers fit onto a 5 door?

Isnt the bumper the same as regular ones? I always thought it was only the grille that is different.

Yeah as far as I know they are identical, only they have their rub strips painted body colour, and the grills are different. Plus all Australian ST170s have the bodykit on them, unlike anywhere else in the world, with unique ST170 badging.
