Hmmm they should pull out that 4 banger and put in the V10 Supercharged hydrogen motor as used in the states. Should fit as its shorter than the I6 and similar width to the V8. It will keep the tree huggers happy and we can still have awesome grunt. Come on Ford…………………………….maybe the GT!

I believe the Ecoboost tuning strategy would be too complex to handle something as dinosaur as adding an extra injector. Makes me wonder why you can't just buy bigger direct injectors, or take some higher flowing ones from a bigger engine. Might need some further research to answer my curiosity regarding this. |

Boss, you were the one who just said you can't fit bigger injectors, i find that hard to believe.
Once people begin heavily modifying, the factory tune is out the window anyway.... I was just putting up suggestions regarding fuelling solutions but most likely, the aftermarket is already full of solutions to making brual HP and eager for the cash... |

Still reading the same thing, no one makes aftermarket direct injectors or compatible fuel pumps.
Yet. Surely it will have to happen sooner or later. |

You'd be physically limited by size wouldn't you as in DI systems the injector is actually right in the head, and sprays into the combustion chamber.

the market is far too big for the aftermarket to ignore... it also means the cost of conversion parts will be reasonable too.. |

it appears that there is a extra factor for some state goverment fleets when buying fleet cars, it's not just co2 but also engine capacity. Most state fleets have an above 2 litre threshold as well the 200gram co2 threshold but this is never mentioned by the media. Meaning if a department orders an operational vehicle from the state goverment, a Ecoboost Falcon will be on the same pricing category as Cruze and Corolla, and cheaper than the Camry as it is in the next category above with its 2.5 litre engine. Ecoboost could be a game changer in this sense.

Don't rule out aftermarket hi-flow cylinder heads complete with higher flowing injectors. Expensive - yes...but if you're at the stage of swapping the turbo and rebuilding the engine anything's possible.
As it was mentioned before - the market for this engine is huge; Volvo, Land Rover and a heap of Fords. The scope for the aftermarket will be correspondingly huge!

Just looked up Ecoboost on carsales.com.au, everyone is listed a 6cyl in the header details and also show 9.9ltrs per 100klms.
This type of misinformation does not help. |

it just means carsales need to update their options. most clearly say ecoboost, 2L or 4cyl in the description. nothing you can do about the rest of it until carsales updates their site options.

How good would this engine be in a Focus?

Those in Europe would go gaga over a Mondeo I6, and if that were to eventuate, the Falcon could finally have a worthy replacement. Enthusiasts would jump on it, as you're essentially getting a cheaper yet larger Ford 3 series, especially now that BMW have moved to Turbo 4s. I6 LPI (due to low carbon dioxide emissions) could find a market there; huge torquey engine with low fuel costs and relatively low tax.

With Fords rear end success of late I hope it stays FWD if a Focus or Mondeo gets the nod for EB.

FWD allows more interior room as the engines take up less space due to the transverse mounting, and there is no bulky tail shaft tunnel.

Switch fronts with either Falcon or Mustang and Voila, one RWd sedan.. 4.0, why do you continually grizzle and sook about the IRS in Falcon? I have a couple of friends with new S/C GTs who report the latest version is much better than their previous F6s. It seems like Ford has made the necessary changes with bushing -something that should have happened years ago.. |
