As the saying goes, be scared when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are scared.
Had my super in shares up until November last year then as the ASX got close to 7,000 transferred to conservative low risk bonds and cash as I started getting nervous.

Our industry fund allows members to use 80% of their fund balance to use for direct investing in the ASX so I took advantage of that as from beginning of April and have done quite well since . Lately there has been some ups and downs but I'm up around 30% over the past 12 weeks. Mainly blue chip companies.

Did the same with cash we had in the bank using Westpac's Online investing platform many trades of which I've realised, so am now set for a large capital gains tax debt this financial year unfortunately.

The markets have been wild lately and I'm not sure if we're out of the woods yet but if you bought stocks in late March when the market bottomed out just hang onto them is my advice.

The real hit will come when innkeeper runs out.

Heaps of businesses being artificially propped up that will fall.

How big a hit is the question, not "if". Especially in over-inflated markets like Sydney and Melbourne, not so much smaller places.

That’s what I did, I bailed out the other day as they started to tumble again. I ended up down by about 7%.
I know if I left my money in they would probably recover eventually but I’d rather have the cash in hand at the moment.

Scare tactics and manipulation at the moment. When the ASX climbs back towards 7000, those that bought / held will have the last laugh. Some of the buy volumes at the moment are record high!

I've gone in with the small cap miners, it's a roller coaster ride but worth the ride. The worlds most eminent investor, Warren Buffet bought $563 million in Barrack shares, gold & silver seems to be the go to commodity. JFK's father's advice on the stock market...

After having made a bundle owning stocks in the roaring bull market of the 1920’s, Joe Kennedy Sr. found himself needing to get his shoes polished up.
While sitting in the shoeshine chair, Kennedy Sr. was alarmed to have the shoeshine boy gift him with several tips on which stocks he should own — yes, a shoeshine boy playing the stock market.
This unsolicited advice resulted in a life-changing moment for Kennedy Sr. who promptly went back to his office and started unloading his stock portfolio.

Looks like the Perth Mint has been selling way more "certificates" of gold than they actually have.

May as well write scrap bits of paper or serviettes.

The way it works they lease gold from a vault in England to satisfy the bean counters that they actually have the gold on the books.

Pity if too many people want to cash in their useless bits of paper.

My son bought some last year, last week he tested the system.

Sure they said, but there is a 600 dollar fee to create the ingots, an admin fee of about 200 hundred bucks and then a shipping fee.

Puts most people off...and that is the idea...they want you to accept cash instead of actual gold.

Who would have thought of this ponzi scheme...?

Bump, how are these performing for you? I say that with Warren Buffets statement in mind

"The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient."

I sold all of my BNPL holdings to fund my other 2, ADD and EXR. I expect ADD to reach $50mil MC soon so that will yield a decent return on my 1.7c entry point and I believe EXR has the potential to do what QGC did in the 2000's.

Had a punt on couple of other small caps but they were junk and exited without any significant loss.

ASX was seeing an 8 month high until it "crashed" - interesting to see what happens when it gets restored tomorrow (hopefully).

I've come to learn the ASX is open to much manipulation, and many people turn a decent profit by playing games that aren't aren't illegal on the ASX (pump prices up, sell, buy in again, rinse and repeat - or vice-versa).

A bit of a dig but I was going over my financial position today and while I definitely lost my **** last FY being that my even with super contributions I was down.

I checked my balance today and so far my earnings for this FY are up 2.5x on my contributions. You ripper!

Also thought I'd saved nothing but with my redraw from extra repayments and cash I'm doing heaps better than I thought. I guess I was just used to holding cash in my saver account

I have been thinking about investments outside super for a long time but have no interest in property.

I'm thinking of putting some savings into ETFs as it would be a passive investment, diversified and a long hold.

Anyone into these and what are some tips?

ETF's etc are ok, they can yield 5-10% average returns, but if that's what you're after stick to AMP and other blue chips.

I've got a couple that've returned 80% in 3 months, hoping these will turn into 20-50 baggers. Like everyone says you need to DYOR. Personally, you need $100k to start investing in the markets, I know a couple of folk who've made over $1m last year. Hold for more than 12 months and you pay 25% CGT instead of 50% if you hold for less than 12m.

I have been recommended this too, but if they are just investing in top companies then why not do it direct?

No brokerage on deposits, low fees, set and forget, diversification etc. They are a very easy and straightforward way to get your money into the share market.

Basically, if you are comfortable with buying and selling direct, a managed fund isn't for you.

Anyone bought VUL securities? 15c this time last year, closed at $9.02 today. Probably the biggest small cap stonker this decade. I need a wanbulance for missing this one :(

Envy those who've been able to make a couple million on this one for holding a year.

Valued more than Macquarie Bank shares! APT is expanding exponentially as well, $200 won't be too far fetched.
