Just heard a report 1 town that had 17000 residents had been completely wiped out by the tsunami 10000 of those residents are reported missing. Government now playing down radiation in sayin the radiation level is falling.

Those poor souls.

If Japan was a 3rd world country the death toll would have been 6 digits for sure.

Most buildings were left standing due to being designed to be earthquake tolerant and the adherence of those strict controls.

Japan is also freezing at the moment, with night temps not much more than 0 in some parts. With all the power and gas cuts hundreds of thousands will be sleeping without heating.

The video of the tall buildings swaying as the earthquake was underway was eye opening.

Wouldn't shifting the earth on its axis have an effect on weather patterns? Different parts of the earth would be facing towards the sun more or less?

I've been watching the Japanese news services:

220,000 people are being evacuated around Fukushima, with three reactors on red alert.

in short yes - quake in Indian ocean & Chile shifted the earth’s axis permanently as well, the cumulative effect of massive earthquakes and Tsunamis such as these can cause global changes in weather as each progressively occur.

large quakes such as the Indian ocean, Chile, Japan etc move massive amounts of rock that change the distribution of the mass of the planet - as mass changes, so does the axis, which in turn changes global weather.

Earth has experienced 500% increase in the number of global earthquakes in the last 40yrs...

It’s a real worry when a Japanese government spokesman gets on TV and says that there’s nothing to worry about because the explosion was just the walls collapsing.

Well, when was the last time anyone saw a sonic boom from an explosion when a wall collapsed?

I think that they are in deep shyte. In 2011 it’s a little harder to fool the masses.

This morning there were still reports from western media that conflicting reports were being given from the government and the power company.

The power company was telling everyone they should evacuate and the government was saying its all ok. But then they still tell everyone within a 20km radius to leave!

O.k that is seriously scary....... Especially if all 3 overheat..... Not sure why the range covers the map like that though....Either way the damage from this will be MASSIVE if they can't contain it.

Remember EF, thats the worst case scenario and the chances of that happening are very remote. If that were to happen, the US would die economically overnight.

Unfortunately with the media shamelessly (disgustingly) exaggerating everything it is impossible to know what the actual situation is and what the most realistic outcomes are, all I can say is my thoughts and hopes are with Japan and all others effected by this.

Fantastic post ST, I've been thinking exactly the same thing. The media will put the doomsday spin on anything for ratings instead of informing everyone the real situation.

My thoughts also go out to the people of japan and anyone who's been affected by this tragedy.
