Speaking of Telluride why isn't it sold here. What is it with the USA not wanting to export LHD. I think it would sell well here.

Kia can't make a commercial van. They aren't allowed to. When Hyundai were forced by the Korean Government to buy out Kia. The agreement between the brands was that Hyundai would take Kia's Light Commerical Van (which they were missing in their line up) and Kia would be no longer able to sell it. That why the Pregio (Based off the Mazda/Ford Econovan) retired and why Hyundai have the iLoad (which is a de-specced version of the older VQ Kia Carnival)

With regards to the Kia Ute, it's in the works.

With regards to Telluride, being an American led project (Built in the Kia Georgia Factory) - it just wasn't developed for the RHD market.

Yeah I get it.

Neither was I until DSG. (Not the ordinary ZF in Ford's)

If just a weekender, manual - totally agree.

But mate as a daily the DSG is excellent. I miss a manual on weekends but certainly not on the city run.

That's why I had my Maloo (manual) and Xr6 T (auto)....to solve it : )

In Canberra though traffic is not really bad, so manual is a lot easier to live with here than in comparison with Syd and Melbs.

I'd like to have a daily and a weekend car but the reality is I can't afford it. It's much easier to shift your own gears here so it doesn't have much appeal for me.

Dr Terry
To an extent, yes Hyundai did rescue Kia from Bankruptcy, but what really saved them was the hiring of Peter Schreyer in 2007. He guided the design team and R&D (the later shared by both Hyundai and Kia) to benchmark the best of the Europeans in quality design and safety.
He was so successful that Hyundai wanted him as well - making him the first non Korean Executive President of the company - working across both brands.

Yes, Hyundai did save Kia, but Kia also made Hyundai better.

Looking from a global perspective, yes.
There a things that Kia can't get access to (N Division and Genesis parts and drive trains). But if you are looking from a local perspective. There are some Kias that are way better specced than Hyundai - at better value too.

With regards to being obsolete - not true.
It depends on platform lifecycles. In some segments kia have the most update tech and platform and in others Hyundai are more updated.

With regards to interior, I guess it's subjective. But a lot of people I know prefer the design and quality of the Kia interior over Hyundai. If you read journo comparisons, most of the time they prefer Kia. Reason for this I believe is because the Kia designers had worked with Schreyer longer than the Hyundai ones. And his philosophies are better engrained

Whatever your preference, both Kia and Hyundai are leaps and bounds better in design and value these days.

My first drive was in my dad's manual mint green Hyundai Excel driving out in the bush. That thing was flogged to death, barely serviced it's whole life but kept on kicking on. No mod cons though

My first car was an 89 Telstar TX5 Ghia which was luxury in comparison

Depends very much on the use of the car.
In 2003 I bought a Silver auto Monaro, because I didn't want the car to scream 'look at me', used it to drive to work in suburban stop start driving, and my missus also drove it.
Now, I would love a red manual version, because my driving needs have changed and I have other cars for day to day.

Yeah I'm Hobart and traffic outside peak times is easy too.

I'd say you are still shifting own gears in a DSG it just does it modernly, lightning quick shifts.

But again, I love manuals too so all good.

I like the Mustang over the Stinger, but as an only car I'm probably going to pass on the Mustang due to practicality. Wider car with longer doors will probably be a bad idea in a single car garage.

The upcoming 2022 Mazda 6 another car of interest - but the reality is it will be out of my price range if buy a used 2-3 year old car in a couple of years. It will look more like the current model than the show concept.

I'd prefer a Mustang over a Stinger too but on my budget no chance of affording one just as a weekender.

Stinger at least is practical as well as quick etc.

As for Stinger, I could jump in a low k one during my current search but tbh its not pulling me in as much as a good vehicle it is.
The current Focus STLine/ST are nice small performance options - but there is so much out there @ the $40-50k pool.
The i30NPerformance is a rippa but I'm feeling I'm needing something like a good ol 4door sedan.
I'm hunting.

There's a really nice black E Class V8 sedan near me. Looks and sounds mint imo for an older sedan.

The new MY20 Focus ST looks interesting with 2.3L Turbo (available in both Manual and Auto).

Went and looked at a '19 stinger ex demo the other day. Might take it for a drive for the hell of it. I would like one, I would like lots of things, but I don't think the boss would allow it.

Do it Shaun. It was hard to hand back the keys after test driving one myself. I really enjoyed the experience. There is lots to like about it. But of course it depends on your expectations of it. At the time I test drove one, they were still new, I was skeptical and wasn't expecting it to impress me the way it did. Quite quick too and my tuner mate can tune them to go harder on top!

Priced one up, $50k DA.
i30NPerformance with sunroof $43,500 DA.
Like I said there is so much to choose to that figure.
I think I'm steering towards very low k 4door euros that has lost its first BIG depreciation hit.
I better review a Stinger for the heck it seems.
Still shopping.

RS's are creeping into the high 30k figures and nice examples with improved gaskets to resolve some of the head issues in that low 40k. I find it hard to look pass them performance wise but the limited boot and back seat space due to AWD appear to be its limitations.

Polyal, STi has been on my hit list and can jump into quite a few early $40's.....
RaisedBM, yes the limited room in Focus hatch is my hurdle so its out but I was very keen on the STLine wagon but I find it very bland externally.
Sorry straying away from KIA/yundai topic.

I know this is about Kia but following on regarding the Palisade:

I spent some time in the Genesis showroom in Sydney today and apparently the Palisade is NOT coming to Australia.

I tend to agree as it isn't listed in the 'coming soon' section on the Hyundai site.

Seeing the GV80 in the flesh... oh man....

Starting at $80k. 5 years warranty, 5 years included servicing, full concierge dealer service.

There is a long waiting list already - lots of people have placed deposits as soon as it was announced.

If my financial plans work out I'll seriously consider a MY21 model or a MY20 Demo.

Give it some time and I'm sure it will get a 7yr warranty.

All good on topic as I'm not a hatch fan at all so as good as the i30N or Focus are just not my type of cars.

They are very good though no doubt

I hear you but as I've said I do like em very much, hot hatchs.
RS3 is the ducks guts - if you ever get the chance get in buckle up.
In saying all the above and previous posts I've bought and it isn't a hot hatch nor KIA
Carsales shopping @ around $40k give or take and at this present covid/EOFY time has been great opportunity and choices have been wide and far.
Been great time, I've been messed up countless times for there is alot on offer but I finally found my fit that surprised me - its all in the timing.
Will post pics in the Non Ford ride thread once I get it over the weekend.

I didn’t think a hot hatch could fill the gap of my modded BFGT but it has in spades ....
All depends on what type of hot hatch I guess ?
I went for a 2018 AMG A45 ( getting stage 1 tune soon ) . It’s an angry little weapon and is very engaging and super capable which brings an ear to ear grin to my face every time. If any car doesn’t do that ( regardless of marque , cylinder count or body style ) then its time to move on regardless.....

I tend to agree but obviously, you, I and a large cohort here are looking more often at performance based. Interested to hear more about your AMG. They caught my attention but a little outside my price range. Hard to find a performance, family friendly and reliable daily rolled into one car. Another criteria for me is manual, especially if going hatch. Current G6Et is a great daily and highway car, although we use the SR5 for highway. Therefore im not really enjoying the performance as much without manual, hence looking at manual RS, GTI R or I30N. Living in port Lincoln though closest tuning (to my knowledge) is 7.5 hrs drive to Adelaide... but there is a Hyundai and VW dealer here...

All depends on what type of hot hatch I guess ?
I went for a 2018 AMG A45 ( getting stage 1 tune soon ) . It’s an angry little weapon and is very engaging and super capable which brings an ear to ear grin to my face every time. Hey I'm with you, used to own a couple small hatchs long ago, no way near the power of today but such fun.
Twitchy, handlers great fun cars/todays some are like overgrown go karts.
Yer your AMG had caught my eye, Hatch was just too small for my general daily needs otherwise I'd be in a i30NP or Golf R or yours lol.....add in RS.

I think hatches are fantastic cars. Reasonably practical and these days very quick.

I just wouldn't buy one even if many reasons to buy one!
