The putter is definitely staying. Virtually halved my putting average over 9 holes.
It's a weapon that's for sure.

Been a while since I posted here, a lot of changes too.
Square driver is out, Taylormade Burner TP is in. Cranked it out over 250mt today, bloody unreal club. Irons are Callaway X Tour 6-PW with some Mizuno MP-R Black Nickel wedges. Have settled on the HX Tour 56 ball from Callaway. Getting some good spin with these, comes in handy on our rock hard greens. Played nine holes this afternoon with the wife. Managed to shoot 42 off the stick (5 Bogeys, 1 Double Bogey, 3 Pars) A PB for me I believe. 12 Putts. Chipped in for Par on Hole 9. Shame it was a par 3. A few wayward iron shots, but managed to recover well with my pitching. Wife shot another 60, with 22 putts. Once she gets the putting sorted, she'll easily be in the 50's. Played well from the tee today, a few duffed hybrids from the fairway. Her iron approach shots were spot on, hit that 9 iron so well! Chipping/pitching has improved, I've been giving her a few tips (Unsure if that's a good thing!) But it seems to be working so far. Even managed to dodge the rain, as soon as the bags touched the ute tray it pelted down! Timed it well.

Threads a little old, couple of months.
But I just got back from a holiday to Northern NSW, played at Byron and Ballina. Byron was a nice course, a bit of a journey between holes at times a little confusing to know where to go. On the day the grounds were slightly wet from rain, and the greens were ridiculous, some were green concrete, others were slower then you could imagine. Spent most of the morning putting the flags up and the cups in, as the greenskeeper was leaving them out. Can't remember what I finished on, triple figures though, something like 108. Ballina was a bit of a suprise, we played 9, the course looked small. But it was so green, the greens were fantasic. The holes were insanely close together, which led to many a near miss from other players during the day. I read that the course was extremely flat, and I have to agree to an extent, mostly it was. But lots of well placed hazards around the greens. I hit a 54 I think. The verdict out of all that, on a day where I couldn't hit a driver to save myself, was that my iron plays, and short game is working well. But I'm struggling to drive. Can anyone recommend me a decent driver for a left hander. I'm currently using a very small headed driver and would like something with a bit more of a face and sweet spot. It'd be best if I could get a 3 and a 5 to go with it, probably <300 dollars for the driver. |

Shot 6 over on Monday but should have been a lot less - had 3 birdies, but should have had 3 more (missed a fair few short putts around 2 meters) But couldn't fault my irons they were bang on target (except for the par 3's think I bogeyed every one - go figure)

Thanks, I was actually looking at the Callaway Club X or whatever the hell it's called.
Failling that the new Nike SQ2?? Probably leaning towards a square face, as they are supposably more forgiving. A friend of mine keeps recommending the Taylormade r7, but slightly too expensive, and the ability to adjust the weights just seems like another problem for me. If I'm not hitting them straight it's not the clubs fault - it's my own. I'm going to duck down to the local pro shop at one of the courses today and see if theres any left handed clubs there for me to have a hit with. Failling that I'll do the worst and order online. |

Its been a while for me to have a hit but with a mate we did a dawn hit off today at Massey Park here in Sydney.
Perfect day but for the early dew on the greens. Missed the sledging and look forward getting back into it !

Bax,
I went square for a while (Nickent 3DX) Good club, easy to hit straight. I then purchased a Taylormade Burner TP. Just as forgiving as the square, but longer. Instead of hitting Square driver then hybrid to most greens, I'm now hitting Burner TP then 6 iron. It cost me a bit, as it's a version 1 (Low Spin, Low launch) with an X-Stiff shaft. I'll send you a PM.

Tough to find a demo when you're a lefty. But you never know, they might have something. I went and tried a normal Burner Driver before I bought the TP version, made the decision so much easier.
Here's my latest addition. Taylormade Itsy Bitsy Rossa Spider. Smaller than the normal Spider (Which is frickin huge!) Got it for nearly half price too. : |

Went out & played my first comp round this arvo.
Shot 111. Average, considering I've been shooting consistently in the high 80's low 90's up until now. Nerves really got the best of me over the first 4 holes, 3 balls on the beach & 1 out of bounds. Only hit one straight drive all day, it was on a long Par 3 & it rolled off the back. Hybrids were simply fantastic, sometimes too good! Rolled off the green on a few occasions. I now need to fill the gap between Hybrids & Irons, didn't have to worry about that with the previous stiff shafted Hybrids. Putting really let me down today, I lost count of my 3 putts after 5. Going to talk to the pro about getting it cut-down (35" Spider). Tried gripping down on it after I finished my round & putted well. Previous putter (33" Tri-Ball) did the job well, and I believe the length played a large part. Bring on the next round! |

I played off 12, haven't played in a few years. I use an SMT Encore 7*, Taylor Made 200 Tour 3 wood, SMT Blades, SMT Wedges and a Wilson 8802 copy. Woods are X Flex and Irons have Dynamic Gold Superlight S300's.

Nice Setup Slo AU.
I'm picking up my freshly cut-down putter today, will see how much of a difference it's made tomorrow morning. Am also looking at trying some different balls, currently using the HX Tour/Tour 56 but I feel I'm getting too much side spin on my drives. Am going to change to a Srixon AD333 and see how they go. Have also got a new driver shaft in transit, only a stiff not an X-Stiff. Might help my driving!

yeah i know i went mining for this thread. but as the weather is hotter and the days are longer, more people must be playing golf.
i have improved a heap, playing at least once a week/2 weeks. played my last round at berwick montuna 18 holes for a 95, which i was pretty happy about. awesome course, but get a buggy if you plan on doing 18 holes as its a rather steep course

I know this is an old old post. But when I got my hole in one, it was witnessed by about 8 people. The social club asked for my ball so they could mount it, but I said not to worry, I know a trophy you can buy and you can sit your ball in the trophy. It's got a nice number one on it. At $15 plus maybe $10 for engraving, I said I'll take care of it. But there were persistant and wouldn't take no for an answer. So I reluctantly handed over that ball. About 3 weeks later i got presented with the trophy. 2 issues. 1st one is that they got the engraving done, but the mount was a block of wood that was looked like an off cut from a bunning timber, and they used a great big screw and went up the gutz of the ball. 2nd problem was, I only use 1 type of golf ball. This is all you'll find in my bag. I use the Greg Norman Shark ball. They had used a pinnacle. So I told them this is not my ball. And the guy who made the trophy said to me "It is the only one in my car. I put your ball on the back floor of the car, and it was the only one in the car went I went looking for it" So I grabbed a new ball out of my bag and went to the trophy shop and paid for my trophy. The guy engraved the plaque for me with the details from the day, and 20 minutes later I had the trophy I wanted in the first place. It's nice that they went to the trouble, but firstly taking no care with the ball that gave me the one shot all golfers dream of getting just once, then throwing it in the car and then making up any crappy old trophy was a real downer on the whole experience. All I wanted to do, is keep the ball that I got the hole in one on, as a little reminder of what I had done. I know it sound petty and ungrateful, but it's like most sports. You set out to achieve the ultimate. Hole In One for golfers, 300 game for bowlers and a 9 dart finnish for any dart players. We arn't pro's at it, so it's nice just to experience the ultimate once. I was just dissapointed and it's something that still peeves me off to this day. |

My Uncle played the local chook run on a Sunday morning for about 22 years. It was 18 holes and it was a can a hole. In all those 22 years he never parred the 18th. Don't know why !!

I love golf but time doesn't allow me to play that much anymore, I usually average around the high 90s, my best has been 89 twice at two different courses. |
