The site is obviously NOT serious, If nothing else the ""4 elephants on a giant turtle" shows that. Thats outa the discworld books (a great fun read!)

The whole site is a game, a laugh, a mental exercise in make believe if you like. (actually i might sign up.. looks fun!)

The sad people arent the people on that site, but the people who take that
site seriously.

Oh and those people who say "what if i fly/drive east.." well acording to their flat disc map, east and west are circumferential to the disc

Anyway everyone knows Australia doesnt exist, its a state of mind.

They have a sub forum titled "Complete Nonsense". After having a look around I think all topics on their site should be listed under this heading.

On a similar note, I hope you're all aware of the dangers of Dihydrogen monoxide too:http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

Yes; that Dihydrogen monoxide is also known as a major cause of corrosion for Ford alloy cylinder heads and was also a major factor in the recently reported hail damage incident as well as claimed fuel dilution incidents. It has also been implicated as a contributing cause to numerous road acidents.

I have a question. (I am one of those who believe the earth IS round, for my own reasons)

Who here has had the experience of traveling into space and mapping the route of the round world? Who here has the knowledge, proof or facts that this earth actually IS round?

Ok, a few astronauts have gone into space, so we have to believe what a few people say? This website (http://theflatearthsociety.org) is obviously an 'Extremist' site. For all those who believe in it. Just like Ford Forums, we believe our cars are the best on the road. But guess what, they are far from it.

Who cares if the earth is flat or round. Doesn't mean I can't go home to my beautiful family after a long hard day at work, drive my nice car and have some good old beer hehe.

Somebody give some proof that the earth is Round.
And then somebody give me some proof the earth is flat.

After that, humans will have to decide on what to believe. So even after the proof of both worlds, its all up to belief.

Firstly, you don't need to go into space to observe the curvature of the earth..any plane flight (or even tall building) will do but near the ocean is best because theres no lumps on the horizon or anything in the way.

Secondly, by their own admission, most of the people on that site don't actually believe it. They just like a good argument.

Thirdly, the best proof lies in geography. For the flat earth to be true, the south pole is not a pole but the edge of the disc. Australia would need to be at least twice as wide (East to West) as China. Only guessing there, it may be more. New Zealand should also be much bigger...and Tassie. The further south, the worse the distortion needs to be to fit the flat earth model.

Have they got an explanation on how satellites would work on a flat earth?

Of couse if one wants to be picky (the appropriate A word was filtered out) about it; it can be argued that the earth is definately not a round ball but more correctly an oblate spheroid. Although as stated at http://regentsprep.org/Regents/earth...ion/oblate.cfm

Quote:
Since the Earth is so slightly oblate, and the Earth's relief is so insignificant in comparison with its size, the best scale models of the Earth would actually be very round and very smooth. Billiard balls, marbles, ping pong balls, and other smooth spheres are the best representation of the Earth's true appearance.

You know when you tell a fib and embellish a few things to add to the lie? Satellites are NASA's way of embellishing the Round Earth theory...according to the Flat earthers. They don't actually exist.

The Earth is slightly fatter at the equator as with most planets with 1 roational axis.

"and the Earth, after that, He made it like a deheya" Quran 79:30

The word "deheya" in Arabic means an egg, hence the oval shape. But the verse also includes a further fact. The words 'after that' clearly indicate that the earth acquired the oval shape at a later stage to it's formation. Modern science will testify that the bulging of the earth at the equator is a result of the continuous spinning of the earth on it's axis, and thus had to occur sometime after the formation of the earth....

You know whats funny, still, since my last post, nobody has ACTUALLY proven that the earth is round. There have been nothing but "Bag this kind of people out because of what they believe", and "hahahaha, this is so funny, they are so stupid".

Still no proof, facts or directions towards the right place. So many people on these forums are young, I do understand, but those grown up people here who have responded, I challenge you to PROVE what you speak. Come on, I will pay you out, until you actually show some proof!

Yep, speed cameras save lives and are not revenue raisers.

Of course the world is flat!

Does no one read Terry Pratchett!!

It also happens to be supported by four Elephants standing on a giant Turtle flying through space!

Geez you lot are really thick!
