Despite what they say, there are many successful businesses which are being run on Macs. It does work. Of course, whether you want it is up to you to decide. |

You are not one of the blokes that turn up on Sunday morning wearing a suit with a free copy of "The Watchtower (Mac edition)" by any chance? |

Truth be told, I don't care what he does. All I'm suggesting is that he try the Mac and then make up his own mind. What is wrong with that? There's no need to be so irrational and defensive about it. |

My experience with Tools is that if you're not running it on a dedicated system then you're asking for trouble. Most small digital recording studios will always run a separate admin computer to their ProTools rig, although I have seen systems with removable boot hard drives (I wonder how stable this is, and what happens when you accidentally drop your admin hard drive on the ground?). There is a common feeling amongst recording engineers that Macs are much more stable than PCs when running Tools. I personally believe that a well designed and dedicated PC will run Tools just as well as any Mac, but I think that's the difference, a Mac may be able to do a few other things as well as Tools, but not much. I think you'd be playing with fire running Office and Tools simultaneously. I'm not well versed in computer recording by any means, but check out www.musiccomputersystems.com (mainly PC based) for more info. ProTools is an inherently unstable software as it is, I guess the rule of thumb is not to stress it out too much.

And, just for the record, I AM NOT A BLOODY DJ (why do people always assume that?). The mixing desk I am referring to above my avatar doesn't even accept RCA inputs let alone have RIAA Phono inputs, it wouldn't even fit in the boot of a DJ's car. I am an Audio Engineer. I mainly mix bands for live shows although I have also done a fair bit of recording, mainly onto ProTools but also 2" 24-track Analogue. I have been working full time as an in-house Sound and Lighting Technician for a venue up here in Newcastle which is nice although next week I start University in order to obtain my Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Music degree so I can stop working nights and weekends and finally get to combine my love of music with a decent working schedule, hehe. Have you written anything we might have heard?
