That is correct. Ford sell very few low riders. Toyota have that cheap market with the petrol workmate. Ford really doesn’t bother competing against it. Would rather sell the much more profitable 4x4’s and the higher grade hi-riders. Ranger nearly always outsells Hilux in that 4x4 market.

Ford would sell many more low ride rangers if they put a auto in them.
I know many people who bought the workmate hilux because it was auto and could fit in car parks with ladders on the roof. Hilux is the only low ride auto availability |

My two major requirements were able to tow 2 tonnes and put a pallet in the back so really only had Amarok, Transporter 4motion and Vito to choose as all other Mid size vans have under 2000kg tow rating and low tow ball weight limits and all other utes cannot fit a pallet between the wheel arches. I didn't want a flat tray as no security overnight,..bought the Vito 119, it was on the showroom floor and I got a great offer on the Trafic Crewvan I traded. Its a great result. It'd be great to see those escape and puma numbers continue to rise. Even Focus. I wonder how much of it is actual supply issue vs its just not selling.

Nah...you can get a van like a Vito thats FBT free. Lots of tradies prefer vans over utes. I have 4 door passenger cars that are FBT free...they just aren't used privately.

I was talking specifically about non-FBT utes as the conversation was about dual cab utes. To avoid FBT with a sedan, you have to show that there’s no personal use, like weekends and holidays, most corporate accountants find that all too hard. That’s not to say that a determined soul like you couldn’t find a way to make it work…. Last edited by jpd80; 08-07-2021 at 05:56 AM. |

I just noticed that Transit custom starts at $47,600 for a SWB manual trans version,
similar price to a Hiace LWB, the comparable LWB Transit Custom is $2,000 more. So I wonder what the model mix is with Transit Custom, SWB vs LWB sales Last edited by jpd80; 10-07-2021 at 12:57 PM. |

The Hiace LWB actually has a load area probably closer to the Custom's SWB model. Conveniently I cannot find the internal load dimensions in Toyota's official spec sheet and brochure off their website. The Hiace cabin is huge in length, reducing the rear load area plus the side step cutouts eat out a large floor area as well. And it's tow rating is 1500kg braked, Custom is 1800Kg which is odd seeing as the Hiace is RWD. |

When it comes to utes, those are the general parameters that most corporates use, unless you want to go through statutory declarations and logging actual usage. I short handed my answer to avoid going on and on about tax nonsense |

The dimensions above for the Hiace arnt correct.
I know the length listed is for the old one, the newer one is shorter in the back. The width between wheel arches doesn't look right either. Ive looked and looked and cannot find the dimensions for the new shape anywhere. It's odd Toyota AU don't list dimensions on their website. Just checked out Toyota Japan website and they don't even sell the new one there yet.

While researching, I noticed that the older 2015s were narrower between wheel arches (1120) this is why I thought that the 2019 figures were still current. In any regard, all credit to Transit Custom matching or exceeding Hiace with big brother RWD Transit there above both of them. |

If these figures are to believed then the Tesla Model 3 could be somewhere around the top 20 YTD. Mind you, the figures are only estimates on cars shipped to the country versus delivered cars.
https://thedriven.io/2021/07/09/anot...es-to-kick-in/ Another 1,200 Tesla Model 3 EVs arrive in Australia ahead of NSW rebates Source: @bentv_sh/Twitter Approximately 1,200 more Tesla Model 3 EVs have arrived at Port Kembla, south of Sydney, signalling the potentially record-smashing impact the Californian automaker will have on the local market in 2021. Sources say that deliveries in NSW will be put on hold until a $3,000 rebate and the waiver of stamp duty kicks in from September. The latest shipment, which has been reported by Tesla ship tracker @VedaPrime, brings the number of now Shanghai-made electric sedans shipped to Australia in 2021 to approximately 7,500, following 2,100 shipped in Q1 and 4,200 in Q2. As The Driven has previously reported, it is thought that at least 10,000 more Teslas will be on Australian roads than in 2020 by years’ end – but being barely halfway through 2021, this number could be even higher than estimated. Nine days into July and Tesla has shipped more Model 3s than Toyota has sold Camrys. Click the link above for the rest of the story. |

The Ranger may be more expensive, but is worth every cent(in my opinion). We have both the 4x2 Ranger and Hilux at my work(roughly the same age) and the Ranger is significantly better than the Hilux.

I think you're right, we had a rental HiAce for 3 weeks last year and I remember it definitely had a smaller internal load area than our LWB Custom and your numbers confirm that it in fact is only marginally longer internally than a SWB Custom. Frankly it's not an efficient use of space given it's external dimensions.

Two people I work with have just bought a Kluger GLX 2wd the other person bought the Rav 4 hybrid. Why ? they considered Toyota reliabilty, value for the money, servicing costs, 7 year warranty. Delivery for the Kluger 4 months. Rav 6 months. Me, I don't have the patience to wait, that long.

I know the Prado and Corolla do or did, and each service was a capped price of $300, bringing the annual cost to considerably more then a single service like others. Not to mention the time or down time (hassle) to do it every 6 months especially if you run a business etc. |

Word is that the Tesla model 3 will sell for under $60k drive away price with the NSW waiver of stamp duty for electric cars from september. That is an absolute game changer. Sucks if you paid $73k a year ago...
