If you are involved with the function of a phone either through the phone or the car and you have to take your hands off the wheel or gear stick its deemed as using the phone and your eyes are of the road for an unacceptable time. So voice and sw controls best way. Sorry about spelling im driving (lol) not

Ummm when you hook the car to the phone doesnt it ring a couple of times and auto answer while the stereo drops in vol, so you dont even touch the phone???

Ill agree with its stupid you cant be on the side of the road with the car in park tho and answer the phone
That is just down right revenue raising

I not saying they are good it is what it is. But alot of crap laws are built around safety and do nothing for safety. But they do make money

I was walking the dog once and there was a long line of cars waiting in a traffic jam waiting to turn, and a free lane next to them. This unmarked police car came along and stop-started next to each single car to check the driver. They managed to find one using their phone and pulled them over.

How about a surgeon, they save more lives than a cop, so should they be exempt from laws that permit driving and using the phone? What if they're driving and need to walk a colleague through something complex that they did themselves last week.

How about a board member of the RBA, they are making decisions that will make or break our economy, yet still no mobile phone exemption

You cant put it all on the cops, they are driven by a political beurocratic organsation. They do what they are told too, some like the power more than others. But they dont make the laws and are told how to enforce them

thats a fair comment, but I still think when a cop decides to pull his phone out while driving he is subscribing to it

Do you have the relevant clause? One or two colleagues of mine got done accepting a job while the phone was in a cradle stationary at a set of lights. Probably too late to contest though.

I carry two phones, work and personal. When I'm working, that's what is paired to BT. When I'm not, it's not in the car and I pair my personal. Would love it if SYNC2 supported multiple pairings at the same time.

Perhaps the same deal in those cars, too?

I've got fairly high end Alpine in my car and only one phone can be paired for calls.
The other can be paired for music though.

When I thought about it it made sense. If I was talking on the hands free and my wife beside me had a call come in, perhaps both conversations would come over the cars speakers at the same time ?

Having it in a cradle is a must but if you are touching it you get ticketed. I varies from state to state but the rules are pretty much the same

I'd say not possible in NSW then. I know of one, maybe two guys that got ticketed for touching their phone while in a cradle. Our PA stopped issuing them out because of it. Gives plod a birdseye view of you breaking the law.

I must say I agree with most of the comments.
I am out on the road most days and I see it all the time this is why I started this thread.
By the way my Daughter is not on her P plates but anyone under 35 seems to think if the phone rings they MUST answer it.
There would hardly ever be a call or text that is so urgent that it needs to be answered while driving putting peoples lives at risk.
The worst thing I see is mostly young females texting while they are driving. Followed by Tradies that no longer seem to have a land line or a wife at home who would take messages. (Bet they are partners/employees in the business for tax purposes).

And Ratter your on the ball and as I am on the road 4-5hrs each day the chances are it will be my turn next.(Hope not as I need my licence for work)

I'm almost certain that I had a BT dongle that did allow two phones to be paired simultaneously. If one was on a call, the other was put into DnD mode. People know to call my work number during business hours and the missus knew to call my work number when I was on call so it's not something I ever got around to testing.

It s a bit tough but on her I reckon. But the cops will always do it

Well if you are using blue tooth and steering wheel & voice controls tou dont have to touch it, but still the phone still be on the dash so your eyes arnt taken to far away from the road. By the way it is also an offence to have your phone on your lap whilst driving, using it or not in most states.

I'd like a dollar for every driver I've seen, driving at me along a road, & they are looking elsewhere other than the road.

Point is, if a child stepped onto the road at that moment, or if I or another driver was to cross the centre line, they wouldn't know what hit them!!!

IT'S STUPID, IT'S DANGEROUS, & I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR ANYONE CAUGHT DOING ANYTHING OTHER THAN LOOKING THROUGH THEIR WINDSCREEN!!!

I think there was a point where the laws allowed you to touch a phone in a cradle, but they were short lived. At this point, it just allows plod to see you breaking the law in clear view in NSW.

Can I dial from SYNC2? I don't actually know. The software doesn't stop me - though it does throw the occasional warning. I'm sure if plod wanted to enforce the law to the limits, I wasn't in complete control of my motor vehicle while stationary at a red and pressing virtual buttons.

To keep on the safe side, I try to touch my mobile as little as possible while I'm in the car. I accept the risk that if I do, and I'm seen doing it, I cop it on the chin.
