Your right, the 427 was a special bit of kit, something we won't see again. Apart from throwing in a 7.0L V8, there were massive front and rear brakes installed, strengthened gearbox and LSD, larger more free flowing headers and cats (keep in mind the HSV headers are pretty good), 30% stiffer springs than the GTS, the only thing I hated on the 427 was the woeful red interior....

I think HSV may do something similar again, but not with a 427...

Really?

So what about all the GTs, GTHOs, XU1s and 6packs which WERE street driven race cars that were ACTUALLY raced?

The W427 was an experiment to see if there was a viable market for expensive factory upgraded basic cars like the Shelby Mustangs or Cosworths etc.

From there results it appears that there was not......

There have been plenty of other experiments over the years, some were outsanding successes such as XR6T, G6ET, Territory, Territory Diesel, LS1, SS ute et. al.
Others not so; F6X, Coupe4, Force, Terri Turbo etc.

Markets change so experiments are tried.
I remember when only farmers bought falcon or holden utes and panelvans were the chariot of the "man about town".

I remember when no one wanted a V8 and the most important instrument was the econo-gauge.

Despite all the negativity on here Ford have led the mainstream technology charge in Australia for over 50 years with others just copying......

Not only does all that SPECIAL kit not seem to be as effective as it should be..they no longer stand out with all the wild looking HSV models now. They look mild in comparison. Wakefield park laptimes W427 1:09.3

...not much in that around a track for all the upgrades is it??

Was that just a one lap dash ??? The W427 is capable of doing that time lap after lap etc.

from the raceway lap time records it says they are the BEST times achieved in said cars, driven by both warren luff and rick bates i think. Pretty convincing. Theyve actually tested the GT335 a few times at the same track and they still have yet to release the GTs times on the list

This is always going to be a bone of contention, clearly the R-Spec and W427 are very formidable car but
racing is darned hard on cars and I think both makes would be in need of serious attention after 20 hard laps or so..

I reckon the vast majority of R Spec owners will get out there and enjoy their cars, OTOH I suispect there's more than a few people with their hand on it trying to kid themselves that their W427 will be a great investment.

I reckon GT Rspec would beat it on the track but 20 laps flat is abit harsh on these cars (most cars) you'd have too try and make them last untill the last 3 or so laps before opening them fully!!

You're probably 100% correct in that statement - however, how many people who buy either car are going to consistently track them? I didn't buy my F6 to do it. I'm pretty pleased that my F6 is .5 of a second off a W427 and pretty even with it down the quarter.

The word going around is the GTS is going to have quite a power output. 50kw+ over the Clubby making it the clear flagship again. Wonder what sort of pricing they will put to it.

If it will have a gap of 50Kw, and the Clubby will have what, maybe 330kw, that's a huge label to have sticking on the boot saying 380Kw.

Regardless of what numbers FPV/ HSV actually run, advertising 380 is a huge leap and I can see some camry drivers, grandmas and ACA reporters getting upset.

I've never understood placing the power figure as a badge on the boot.
Those 185 Clubsports seem a bit lame and underpowered compared to the present.

The W427 didn't display that it had 375kw, so maybe HSV might just leave it as a GTS badge on the boot and no kw badge.

You do know that there are XR6 turbos and GT's being raced in national categories, such as the Australian Production Car Championship?

Are they not "race cars"...?
