I6 has been getting dumped for years, but it survives...just like the Falcon. It will eventually go, but you posting that its days are numbered are about as useful as the media saying tha Falcon is gone next model.

Eventually it'll go, but damm has it had a good run and has impressed so many and made 'newer' engines feel outdated.

Yes, the I-6's days are numbered and at the moment it's around 1825 days.

Correct.

Also, If my research is correct, they may be considering a 'smaller' Falcon for the next-gen platform. So this would indeed open the door for a T-Bird to be platform-buddies with the Falcon.

A premium Lincoln sedan would need to be a bit larger, more like the current E8 size, which is convenient because it would open the door for a new Fairlane in Australia. Smaller than a traditional sized Fairlane, but still bigger than what the Falcon would be with the new platform.

What I would like to know is how in hell is that a "negative" and how does this have any bearing on efficiency etc...?
Bore centres obviously relate to the maximum bore width you can run. Efficiency wise i believe a wider bore gives better fuel burn and obviously allows for more valve area.

What the articles are saying is that the falcon six is outdated because it has been around for 50 years. When in fact the ONLY thing that remains unchanged is the actual spacing of the cylinder bores. There is absolutely nothing negative about this! If you are on to a good thing, keep it that way! BUT the media use it in a negative way saying the engine built in 2010 is somewhat unchanged from the one built in 1960...idiots

The Industry Minister, Kim Carr, was in the engine plant today.

No idea why though. Discussing future plans/funding? Who knows.

Probably just a demonstration/walk-through. Might also be something to do with the Bosch deal.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Kim Carr only got that portfolio because of his name?

The Bosch deal only affects the Casting Plant, has nothing to do with the Engine Plant.

Something's cooking. The regular sources are being quite tight lipped about the whole thing.

As far as I can tell, it involves the engine plant, and the future of Falcon, but in a good way.

Well all it could be is a new engine line being introduced, or some sort of upgrade to the I6. There is nothing else it could be.

That incorrect rumour/story/media release about the 2.7TD being made here was just that, wasn't it?

Right. So we know that the 2.7TD, EcoBoost 4cyl and the Coyote are essentially crate engines and will require little if any local involvement from the engine plant. FPV's tinkering with the 5.0 not included.

There is no other engine that would conceivably fit into FoA's product planning apart from the V6 which was canned and will more than likely stay canned for a long time, if not forever.

So that leaves upgrades to the I6.

did you see what Mr Carr said in the recent past about the Australian car manufacturing future? Ive read between the lines and I reckon they're going to announce a new export opportunity/partnership with china. Possibly engines if he was in Geelong, but if he was in Broady there may be something more to it...

I'd LMAO if Ford now showed Holden and GM how to do a GRWD the right way....

Remember this little tidbit from Gorman back in 2007
(well advanced on LHD)
Quote:
Ford Abandons Export Plan For New Falcon
“That money we got from government for left-hand-drive [Falcons] has been applied to the Focus program so there is no more money,” said Gorman.

“They are partners in our investment strategy - both the federal and state governments. What they have seen is the number of (Focus) exports will be equal to or greater than the number of left-hand-drive Falcon exports would have been. It fills our capacity and strengthens our ability to be competitive domestically.

“So they saw that and they agreed to come along for the ride.”

Ford investigated the left-hand-drive export opportunities for Falcon and Fairlane primarily in the Middle East. Holden, which is GM’s global rear-wheel-drive homeroom, exports both Commodore and the long-wheelbase Statesman to the Middle East, rebadged as Chevrolets.

“We were actively looking at left-hand-drive Falcon and we clearly advanced that pretty far,” said Gorman. “It wasn’t my decision (to not proceed) because it wasn’t my investment.

“The corporation [Ford] had to decide if that was the right investment to put the right product into the Middle East versus other choices. And when you look at the choice to put Focus here, that is a much, much better near-term choice.
