It's either that, or actively pursue the reverse engineering of the now dysfunctional product for the purposes of returning the functionality that was originally sold to me.

I would suggest that if this is enforced, that all currrent customers should boycott any SCT product sold in Australia from now into perpetuity.

Has anyone notified the ACCC and sponsored a complaint? If not I suggest someone in the industry do so soon. This is obvious anti-competitive behaviour.

Its iresponsible and with the amount of money spent by individuals to have that investment squashed is crap. Its just another example of the rip off industry we are face with as modifyers/ enthusiasts. Surely there is some one in Australia can make a wee black box like that and build some soft ware.

I cant buy a motherboard for my 3 year old computer, or new drivers for my 4yo scanner.
There saying there not supporting this box anymore, it still works but you cant update it anymore and from what I read they no longer support it in the US either.

Why do they need protection?
Its been reported capa was sending boxes for payment on a loan basis, so you buy a box take it to your tuner if you want a custom tune, the tuner uploads the custom tune.
Then Capa buy the box back of you once your done at the tuning shop, you send it back and they re-set the box and sell it to the next person.
Same deal with there generic tunes, flash it in your car and send it back to get some money back..
================================================== ========
I wouldn't be blaming Herrod or SCT for this, I have a xcal-1 flash box but the solution SCT have come up with is wrong.
SCT need to offer a bigger discount for those that are forced to update to a xcal-3.
What CAPA were doing was wrong but... SCT taking them on legally would have been the prefered option rather than shutdown a product servicing thousands of customers and giving them the options of update or nothing..

I have a handfull of close friends and family that all have a Xcal1 and none of them are online and won't know about this "News" untill they call their local tuneshop next time.

By screwing them over? Under fair trading laws, its the dealers who are now liable to compensate owners for their loss. Its a guaranteed way to make sure dealers drop your product and look elsewhere.

Not supporting it is fine by me - stopping it from working as I purchased it is another thing all together. If they stopped support, the tuners would still be able to carry on until all of their bits died of old age.

Your PC is a very different example where you can still run it as is and do with it what you could when you got it.

Good luck to herrod in selling X3 boxes. If this pans out the way it looks I'll never touch another SCT product. Once bitten twice shy.

I'd like to hear herrods commentary on this deal. At the moment the way the picture has been painted they look complicit in a deal that is screwing over a great number of their potential customers. I would think herrod would be doing more harm than good to it's reputation by being involved with SCT if what has been detailed in this thread is correct.

It's like software, eventually they are going to refuse to offer support unless you upgrade to a new version otherwise what is the point in spending money developing it?

Having said that, from what I can understand though is they cut off this product with no notice period while still selling the units as new in question.

If my aim is indeed correct, that is very wrong! This is what I have been able to decipher.

its one thing to not support a product after a period of time. its something else altogether when your product is sabotaged forcing you to upgrade if you want to continue having that functionality.

But you are wrong.
They don't render your software unoperative when a new version comes out.

How about they offer us free upgrades if we hand in our old flash box, because that statement doesn't exactly make me feel any better about losing money on something i can never use again.

I'm guessing the "Computer" analogy that Spooly is using, relates to those with their completed tune still being able to use their box as per normal... like old and obsoleted computer "software", it can be used over and over until the box dies or gets crushed by a tyre : .

For those that want to continue to enhance or change their tune but cannot, it is like not being able to buy the latest "hardware" to make their box run a newer and more complicated program.

Having said all that, SCT will likely lose a lot of customers if this goes to totality over the next few weeks.

Maybe even staunch (foolish?) supporters like myself........

I'm in on Tuesday for a tune, lucky I had already arranged it.

Not happy though, is the XCAL 3 even compatible for the AU?

I personally wont even contimplate buying a xcal 3 or xcal 4 or xcal 5 and clearly the company cant be trusted . Bridge burnt from what ive read tonight there a couple options might aswell give them the chance to burn us.

I will give a full rundown on the series of events that has made this mayhem happen in a later post , i had no idea that SCT were doing this apart from wanting to shut down the unlocking of the boxes .
At this time i would like to tell you i have it 95 % sorted and hopefully by the morning i will have it locked down and things will be back to normal .
