I took it to my local mechanic who told me that he called Ford and was told this was a recall item.

So I took the car to Ford, my dad picked up the car and asked where the letter was for a recall, the service manager said Ford do not send letters out for recalls any longer.

Yet my parents 1996 Mitsubishi Magna had a recal for the fire wall, they bough the car in 2003 and in 2004 got a letter for a firewall recall.

Why should I buy a new Falcon when they do not send recall letters for a big safty issue.
If you bought the car second hand, which if you got a 2003 in 2004 then i'd assume you did, the reason you never got the recall letter is because they had no knowledge of who owns the car after it was sold. The original owner gets the recall letter, I got a safety recall letter last year for my Territory that I sold about 8 years ago because i'm the original owner.

Ford have no way of knowing who owns the car involved in a recall, just who the first owner was, they print notices in newspapers and its sometimes mentioned on TV, to try to inform second or third or whatever owners of the problem.

Whoever told you they don't send out recall letters is a moron.

We are still within lease for our existing FG ute. I'm trying to convince my wife (her lease) to shorten the lease to get an EcoLPI in a couple of years .. before they are gone. I have no plans to bother looking at anything else .. Rangers and all those pickups (they are not utes) are not fit-for-purpose for our needs.

Wow, this is why there are so many Falcon's sitting in the yards, it appears that the Falcon just doesn't meet people's needs anymore, other cars have evolved in leaps and bounds to suit the ever changing demand from buyers, yet the Falcon has not!

It also appears that the dreaded BA / Territory build quality issues are still lingering around.

If they would give me a good trade in I'd probably take a new one now... The old ones out of warranty.

I don't think id buy a GT again though, probably an F6 or GS (cheaper).

Have Ford seen what other manufacturers are offering ? Longer warranty's 5-10 years, free roadside assist for 3-5 years, servicing included up to 100,00kms ? Fords warranty and after sales service hasn't changed for a very longtime. That needs looking at. With the complexity of modern cars, I would be looking for a longer warranty, free servicing would be attractive as servicing has got expensive. Roadside assist not so much. as I need RACQ Ultra. only get basic with offers..but some people would find it attractive. Ford need to rethink their whole marketing strategy. I am not Ford bashing, just an observation.

Ford do give free roadside assit for the first cple of years and then free if you get your car serviced at a Ford dealer.

As for warranty - they stuggle to honour the current 3 years.

Even in the first 3 years it has to be serviced at Ford for the free roadside IIRC.
Mine got serviced there twice, i pay RACQ

I wanted a new falcon, probably XR6 Turbo Ute/Sedan, but I wouldn't be buying for 12-18 months if I chose to do so.

But I think i've come to the conclusion that the FG Falcon might just be to big. I might still buy one, but given I spend most of the time driving around town, with my car in a car park all day, i'm not sure I want something so large.

If I don't pick up dads Mondeo next month I might look at something Focus/Impreza Hatch sized.

My modern(ish) falcon supports my business, its a wagon, modified with better seats and interior to make it presentable to clients and tolerable for long distance. Ford doesn't even make a suitable product anymore. Maybe a ecoboost or ecolpg wagon with leather would have been attractive...

anyway, I like old fords better, they go up in value not down.

Value for money brand new... simple as that.

Having said that though once I complete my degree and get into the field I'm studying for I will be on the hunt for an FG turbo.

Falcon............. i'm so proud of what Ford Aus has achieved especially in recent times where dwindling volumes are still seeing Ford/FPV repay the faith with the F6 and Miami cars.

But there is smarter alternatives out there.......... the Mustangs and Lincoln products are so far ahead in so many ways........ some of the features we are missing out on is criminal, compact engines, AWD drivelines etc and interiors luxuries.

Mustang has the volume to justify cars like the Boss302 with Recaro seats, 2 less doors and killer body style:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN9GT...7&feature=plcp

As well as the 5.8L GT500 about to be unleashed........ 6 pistons, blown intercooled 351ci and 650hp standard!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nFfu...eature=related

4 door cars?........... low-spec Taurus isnt the only answer, check the features on this badboy.... AWD twin turbo, THX sound and laser guided cruise control anyone?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eYpH1UK2AY

So i'm hoping my next Aussie Ford will be a Yank one!

What are you talking about Dan, You should be buying a Falcon and sending it off to the Hilliers to chop it in half!

That said that Mustang is some serious car porn

Sorry but my days of toasting money building big dollar Fords is over!......... I have turned to the dark side of the Force(d induction)

I'd have a 2013 Boss302 or GT500 in a heartbeat though if they were priced like the US has them...... 50-60K oh yeah!

same! no more spending big money modifying fords for me either - I've gone the highly modified GTR route! will never look back!

As for buying a new falcon - I've never bought a new car in my life (and never will). If I wanted a new falcon, I would wait 18months and get a second hand low kms falcon and pay a third less.

my situation is now extremely complicated which 3years ago it wasnt. Id have a ranger and a FG falcon for the wife....life is tough.
But i tell all my friends how good the falcon is in our aussie market these days and most have no idea about the power economy ability and the safety these falcons have. Most buy smaller cars despite wanting larger cars...but perceptions destroy any chance of them buying a new falcon. Focus seems to be winning most hearts around me.
I still have hope for a new falcon oneday...

Once I've graduated, I can't justify spending that much just to have it on 0kms. I'd much, much rather spend $30k on a decent used, (xr50t...) and leave $5k or so for mods. With warranties as inflexible as they can be, I dare say I'd rather have a used car.

Not for some time yet, if ever. Budget means I'm a used car buyer. That with a 100km daily commute, aversion to LPG and spousal input into the decision has lead me to what I have now.

Given that I have the coupe as my weekend plaything means I have to concede plenty of ground when it comes to the daily driver. If I want a new (or low km used) GT/GS/F6 I have to give up the coupe and that's something I'm not prepared to do.

I'd love to go out and get myself a GS Ute but it ain't gonna happen.

It all gets down to individuals circumstances.

I was in the market for a new GS or GT (new, demo, or low kms). The GT was probably stretching the budget a bit, and the GS only really had the motor going for it.

I ended up with a series II Holden CapriceV, standard features include, leather, sunroof, sat nav, dual DVD screens, front and rear park assist, reverse camera, auto rain sensing wipers, in car tyre pressure monitor, premium audio with internal memory to store CDs and the list goes on.

Sure, some of those things aren't worth it and i may never even use them, but as a whole package it really stands out. The GS felt so bland in comparison... From a ford enthusiast, i would have preferred the GS, however, the Caprice just ticked so many boxes, and to a non enthusiast (the wife), it made more sense.

Plus, i'm a fan of the LWB cars, it's a pity ford don't do one anymore. A LWB Fairlane with the current 5.0L motor would have been the perfect package for me!

Perhaps in a few years FPV/Ford will introduce some more features to make them more attractive to the non enthusiasts.

I turn my cars over every 2-3 years, so perhaps my next car will be a GT.

This thread says it all..!
If we (the Ford Falcon loving Australians) are not even supporting the brand by buying new, how can we expect others to and therefore the car to survive?

I see some validity to the theory that maybe FoA want the Falcon to die too. Look at the lack of marketing and focus on smaller imports. It all makes sense.

Don't really understand your point?

The Falcon has been the foundation of Ford Australia for over 50 years!
Do an audit of the ratio of threads here on Falcons vs other topics.

We are not discussing the future of Ford in Australia here, we are discussing the future of Ford local product and manufacturing! If Falcon dies, so does this local connection. No doubt FoA will soldier on, but as an importer only.
Sure, we will continue to buy imported Fords, but what makes them different to any other import?

You've missed the point totally.

My bad. But the world doesnt revolve around the Falcon.
Yeah this thread is about the Falcon ill agree there.
But you posted 'We as Ford Falcon loving Australians' not everyone here is one.
But i do agree, its funny the people that want it to survive wont even buy one. But as has ben posted it wouldnt make a difference if we all bought one really.
