By the way, have you seen the TV advert for the 86 about the "perfect track" where a Jap driver is drifting the car around a big flat dirt pan? Can't see that advert lasting long with the wowsers and what they think of cars being driven "agressively" in TV ads...

I was thinking the same thing. Wondering how long the ad will last. I'd give it a week.

They have 200HP, not 200kW.

come on ford, pay attention! imagina 12 month waiting list for a falcon based product...

I was seriously considering trading the Mondeo on one but have heard you have to wait six months to get one?

Bugger that, I'll stick with the Mondeo, if I order and pay for something, especially that amount of money, I don't want to wait that long.

You might pay a deposit, but you don't have to pay the whole amount of money before you get it.

But it is correct, certain specifications are in for a hefty wait.

I realise that. But the week long wait between signing the papers on the Mondeo and picking it up almost killed me, no way could I handle six months. I'd do my head in!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Mondeo, but have always wanted a little sporty number, and the 86 ticks all the boxes. And while I'm still single & kidless, its probably the best time to own a two door!

If that is the case mate, you are better off waiting a year when there are a few of them already about and pick one up for a cheaper price. Totally understand doing it when u are still single and no kids. I would too if I were single and had the cash to throw around. But I think the battle at the moment is whether or not you can be bothered to wait 6 months.

That's exactly what I'll do I think. That way I can compare features and stuff to the new Mondeo when it comes out, and then, if I think I can justify a new car - trade the current Mondy in on what I think I like best at that time.

Who knows, I might just keep my current one until warranty runs out so I can play with it a bit ;)

Heard that the wait here in SA has blown out to 18months according to local Toyota Dealership.

18 freaking months?

That's ridiculous, seriously who would want to sign for a car they have to wait 18 months to take delivery of???

Toyota should get their act together!

I think Australia were only allocated 400 units initially to determine if the car was viable for our market. I got this info from a guy I work in the same building with who has spoken to a Toyota dealer about ordering 1. Take that info how you will.

How good would it be if Ford Aus could build a niche sports car on a global release like the 86.
Sort of like Capri but with wider appeal.
Would give them a product to export world wide.

Toyota Australia has orders for 1800 of them, this is not just in Australia, it's a world wide thing, Toyota just can't make enough of them

Finally got to drive one today,
GT manual

Hah an XT leave it for dead???? not a chance, it may be in front at the end but the 86 would still be there beside it

That short shift 6 speed is very quick and smooth,
It did manage to get it to understeer a bit on a 1st to 2nd gear change under full power around a sweeper bend

Only problems I found was the clutch had no feel to it and forget anyone sitting in the back seat.
With the front seat forward enough for a rear passenger the front passenger would need to be a contortionist to get it

12 months??? I'll see what price
Subaru put on theirs

Subaru will be dearer, and odds on wont include anything more than the 86 GTS. Not to mention, Subaru gets even less in terms of stock than Toyota will.
