It was yesterday, but still buzzing today.
Bought a ton of XC parts off a lady who's husband passed away. He had boxes and boxes of smalls, lots of NOS, in a sea container. She had a nice round number for the lot, just wanted it all gone. Yesterday was like Christmas, finding all these treasures wrapped up. I can't believe I got to it first, she reckoned her messages were going crazy.

Well i didnt get any no reason cancellation from the ex wife today, so i spent a fair chunk of today with my son. He has a shift today so thats acceptable. He did say he can call in sick to spend extra time, however that was a no from me because work ethic, sick days are for when you are actually sick.
Anyhows, we did some stuff but i upheld my word and yes he could have whatever he wanted for lunch provided he cooked it (he works at maccas, but thats not cooking, he isn't allowed to cook at his home for some reason). So i taught the way i like to teach. But same reaction i often get the first time with a new apprentice. Step one, get a pot, then a look..... an extended look, then i says 'well get a pot'. Step 2, fill it with water..... same look, then he got it. I find the best way to teach is not by showing how to do it, but explaining how so they do it. Not in this case, but yes sometimes you may have to step in, but you dont take over or do the 'give it here'. Anyhows, the one aspect that he made today he had never had and reckons goes good. This applys to burgurs, hotdogs, pretty much anything between bread, turn it into garlic bread and lightly toast it before assembly. |

Spent the day fixing a set of 4 kitchen drawers that were out of alignment and coming out of the rails. Retro fit new sets of soft close tracks from Bunnings and after some sweating and cursing they came up neat ! Can't help but go into the kitchen and open/close the drawers every chance I get LOL

I like you also want to fit these soft close slides to the kitchen island, but don't know how to. They have sliders already.. is it just a matter of taking one off, take it to Bunnings, match up the length, and retro fit? One Man

Essentially, yes. Cabinetry is closer to metalworking than it is to carpentry - so mark out precisely with a biro or 0,5mm pencil, steel rule and try-square, pr¡ck intended holes with a bradawl, drill pilots to full depth.
If you’re lucky the old holes will line up well. If you’re unlucky they might be in the way of new holes and need filling overnight with marine epoxy or similar. I did grab a pair of these ones earlier today: So I will have a shot at fitting them when I have the time. As a bonus... I was looking for somewhere to park without getting a single mark on my car and here's what I parked next to... Pretty safe bet parking there.

Won an upgrade on one of the legs returning home today. It is the slightly longer leg of brissy to melbs, so I'm thankful for that. I'll just have to slum it for the cairns - brissy with the rest in cattle class.
Asked for an upgrade to economy x at the counter, which they did, but they never took payment. Hasn't come through on my card yet, either.

When flying with virgin, you get an option to bid for an upgrade. It's up to you as to how much you bid, but there is a minimum. For eg, iirc, the minimum for melbs to cairns was $140 (on top of the fare I'd already paid). I bid $155 for that one, and got it. Bid $85 for cairns to brissy ad missed it. Bid $105 for the melbs leg and got it.
Two things that help: I'm travelling by myself so if they have a single business seat that hasn't sold, I slot in easily. Much harder if there's more than one of you. Second, don't bid the minimum. I go about $15 above the minimum, and have now been successful three times out of the four times I've bid.

Hi. UPDATE. Pulled out the top drawer to take out the lock and noticed a bit of string tied to the locking bar inside. Had to pull out 3 more drawers to find the keys in a plastic bag caught up in the locking mechanism. Not a match for the old tool box but a win all the same. Cheers MD

I always have fun indentifying customers with characters from British comedy shows from the 90's, usually One Foot In the Grave or Keeping Up Appearances.
Today, I had one of our regulars first up, a dead ringer for Mrs. Skimpson from Series 3, Episode 5 "Beware The Trickster On The Roof". I think we all know a Mrs. Skimpson, someone who asks a lot of small-talk questions, but never waits for the reply before asking the next. I can't find the clips, but she is featured at 9min 20sec, and 21min 38sec. "..........goodbye Mrs. SKIMPSON! May god have mercy on your soul........"

The following made me feel both good and bad.
A customer of the nursery was/is looking for someone to help maintain a sizeable corner block garden, to which I was asked by one of the bosses if I would be interested in another gardening client for side business. My answer was a quick no. I know that it seems foolish to knock back work in what is a very seasonal profession, and I do feel somewhat bad for saying no. But, I spent 15+ years saying YES to EVERYTHING. Yes, I'll be there tomorrow/next week/in a couple of hours. Yes, I can do it right now. Yes, I'll fill in for someone who wants (another) weekend off. Yes, I'll work 20 days straight so you can go to some music festival. Yes, I'll forfeit some rare spare time because I have no family of my own and therefore nothing better to do. Yes, I'll be there at 7am to fit you into my schedule. Yes, I'll trapse through the bush at dusk looking for your lost dog. Yes, yes, yes, yes................... So yes! It felt good saying NO.

Aahhhhh kids. So i will prefice this by saying as a child whos parents devorced.... Anyhows my kid is not like that, i do not have to buy his affection. I just enjoy ****ing off my ex wife. So his birthday is next monday, so in 2 days. We had spoken about this. So not a surprise present at all, but for the past long time he has been big on ecosystems and kept a small fishtank but over monitored everything. So yeah, things are thriving. Thats a 28L tank.
Anyhows, i said for his birthday id go him halves for the bigger tank he wants. He works part time at maccas and is saving for said much more expensive tank. So todays forward and back was he can get said tank on sunday. I asked which sunday? Anyhows he had to work out his pay id. So i said half, but i went a bit more for accesories or incidentals for the 290L tank he has saved up for. Im waiting for the backlash.... |

Well, young little big fellow went and got his big tank today. So yes i went a fair percentage towards the total cost, and yes he has worked hard to save up for it. And by work hard, he has. Picking up shifts and such but being limited to 3½ hours as not 15 yet, 15 happens on monday.
So its great that he is happy to the extreme that he has his big fish tank. Great that he is happy, but man put the stand together, water in, give it time to be untap water then sand/gravel plants, logs and fish to then carry on about how great it is. Not machine gun texts of greatness when nothing is assembled. |
