I've bought a car, rims, couple of old car mags, bike lights, steering wheel...

All no problem. As others have said, do your research and work out what the item is really worth to you.

And I delete any email Ebay sends me requesting details.

I buy and sell heaps on ebay. I usually find people can't be bothered leaving feedback. I've sold heaps but have only got a 3 feedback and 100%

If I leave feedback and they don't for me I send an email saying they should return the favour. It works most of the time.

My older brother just recently bidded on 12 pocket bikes from Ebay for $1200 and paid into a Western Union and had no more contact after payment, after he was sent an email after the bidding had ended, saying he was the 2nd highest bidder and legally through Ebay laws it must be sold to him.

He sent a fake website for the auction and everything!

But other than that, i havent had any problems with Ebay.

Just dont trust the big Ebay shops, its better to buy off real people.

I've paid by Western Union money order about 90% of the time and have never had one hassel.

I've sold a couple of things on eBay & have had no problems , always keep in constant contact until I've recived payment & they've recieved the item.

Bought about 15 items , always in Aust. not overseas , & have had no problems , I always check their feedback closely .

Best bargains :-
1/ Bought a 53cm TV for my son with AV sockets so he could play his playstation in his room $60.00 (old one was Pre-AV) . It was listed "Pick-up ONLY , Parramatta" . Was arranging with a mate in Sydney to pick it up for me (I live 400k's west) when the seller contacted me & said " My parents live in the same town & I'll be up next w/end to see them , would you like me to bring it with me ". Fair enough I know his parents . He turned up Sat midday , TV was in perfect cond. & wouldn't accept any extra for delivery. (what's the odds of that happening again). :voldar02:

2/ Bid on some 15" tyres & VT rims in Canberra for the wifes ED , Ad said 75% tread , selling due to purchase of "New Alloys" . Was in next suburb to my Bro-in-Law , got him to pick-up & pay....$40.00 the set....when I recieved them , it was more like 90% tread , kept the tyres & sold the rims locally for $100.00 ... profit plus !!!!! :

3/ Buy Now , a Melbourne Computer shop . Compaq , P4 , 1.7ghz , 40 G H/drive , CD burner , 512 Ram , K/Board , Mouse , Modem & Monitor = $159.00 + freight = 4 available , 30 day warranty , I took the 4 at that price(discount on freight) Perfect condition , I'm using one now , daughter has one , sold 2 to good friends for what they cost me (could have made a good profit ,but didn't) arrived 3 days after sale ended , great delivery.

Best Tip :- be patient , bid very late Friday or Saturday night on items ending EARLY next morning (while most people are sleeping in) no need for "sniping" or bidding too much :

We use E-Bay mainly for buying car parts and selling our Hotwheels.

However I don't think, I would by a car from it.

I have a look occasionally just out of curiousity but I doubt I would buy anything of significant value, if anything at all from eBay.

I'e bought a few items and never had a hassle. I watched with interest recently when my neighbour was buying a car and selling a motorbike at the same time. Bike was in good condish but didn't start as well as it should have and he reconed it was old fuel and lack of use but I didn't know so his son started it every half hour till the buyer got there and it started first go of course. Buyer happy, pays & goes. Meanwhile he was in Sydney buying a car for daughter. Reckoned it was far cheaper to buy in Sydney, which I generally agree with. He went down day before stayed overnight went first thing to buy car and drove it home. Apart from the o'nite stay the car needed a few things done to it as he found out when he got it back. $4000 car + 200 o'nite stay + $1000 for fixes means he really didn't get a bargain at all. A bit of Karma that I reckon.

Ive bought and sold on ebay a fair bit and got some awsome bargains i.e. i bought an old ibm ex-gov PIII 1.1ghz server with 640mb of ram and 50gig worth of scsi hdd's for $200 which i thought was pretty decent and to date have only been ripped off once on a phone that was "supposed" to be some brand new high tech crazy thing for my sister a few years ago but the phone never turned up and never saw the $700 again but ebay refunded the money so all was good.

You might want to be careful with that. Like the cricket, the promoters are looking at ways of cancelling the tickets sold on ebay.

Bought heaps of stuff with no problems....about 50 odd items, including the car I am driving now and other stuff that I just bid on cos it seems cheap or hard to come by. "might need that some day"
Finding rare bits for the Landau, EBAY was bloody grouse. DOnt know how I could have got the bit I did any other way.

Default eBay Sniping Software

Just wondering what sniping software people recommend.

I feel a bit uncomfortable giving a 3rd party company my eBay use name and password. Has anybody had any dramas?

Snipers are over rated...............

If you have the highest mximum bid entered then a sniper will never beat you.

I have never been out bidded by a sniper for anything I really wanted on eBay

Exactly.

My tip is don't enter any bid at all until 2 minutes to go, then type in your max bid. Shhh.

If you are on a fast reliable internet connection, leave it until 10 secs to go before putting your bid.

Yeah, I know, but half the time I'm on the road or tied up with client or otherwise engaged when the auction ends, which was why I was looking at sniping software.
