YES!! I've been caught out on that one a couple of times. Thankfully no impacts though.

Be patient.

Nothing is worse then losing your cool when doing something fiddly. Leave it for and hour and come back!

Or....don't pay a mechanic to do anything.

Your car will come back with either new scratches, repaired panels, lighter fuel tank &/or they will use their apprentice 16yo mechanic.

Tip - buy as many manuals as possible, DIY; you'll know it gets done properly.

A $5000 car plus a $10000 engine dose not give you a $15000 car.

If you're expecting to spending a particular amount on fixing/modifying your car, use the below for reference.

(Estimated Amount x 3) + Lower Your Expectation

if it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape; if it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.

This is true.

LEARN how to use your BRAKES.

How many people here have gone for a driving test that involves them braking from 110KPH????? Yet we drive on our motor ways doing that + (sometimes)

Learn how to BRAKE correctly it will save you 1 day.

Never lose your cool in public.
It makes people dismiss you as simply a jerk with inadequacies.

Also, do yourself a favour and put all your sockets and spanners back in the holders as you use them, saves looking for them later.

Best Ford $$$ Saving Tip I ever learnt,

Change the $10 Power Steering Hose nut
Not the $100 Power Steering Hose

And change diff and gearbox oil every 40000kms

Will save you $$$$$

This thread was supposed to be a useful tool to share AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR TIPS only.

Seems its got way out of wack. Could of been useful for many of us if it was done properly.

Perhaps it can be extended to "all things automotive" as it's much more general and allows people more scope for an answer. Let's hope this thread stays good, as I see no reason for it to fail if people keep it civil.
