Anyone else had to remove their brembo's to fit the 15's or is that just me?
The same type wonder why the feds are always picking on them. : Most of the cars with the steelies are probably only >100rwkw and anything with half decent grip wont spin. To the O.P. The ones with the steelies probably say if you have to ask your too old.

I've done this a few times. However I defer to the excuse that when the Simmons were off for repair, I did need SOME way to keep the car off the ground

Gotta save the good rubber
You cant put your fine china out for every meal, cause then it gets old and worn. Same with your mags. Cant afford to have them out in the weather all the time, so rotate the rims through |

One of my mates used to own a 5 ltr VN, a white executive, and he used to have the 2 alloys on the front and 2 steelies on the back. The funny thing is, when he got a wheel alignment, the guy recommended putting stock wheels on the front as well to make the steering feel more neutral. The minute he had four interceptor wheels on that car, it looked like a real sleeper and gave it ten times more credibility than it had ever had before. He never put the two alloys back on again..........

My brothers friends used to go to Bridgestone and get the old tyres that were replaced with new ones for free. They did actually go out and burn them up atleast.

Haha funny this should come up today.
I was driving with a mate and we pulled up next to the stereotypical muzza in a 90's lancer with stockies on the back. I asked "whats up with that?" and he goes "burnouts bruz, dont wanna scratch up me 20's" he had 17's on the front too and was dead serious!

Honestly, besides the guys who have there *** sagging on the ground with stockies on the back, im a fan of the look.
Ive only done it once, and that was when i shredded the tyres on my rear wheels, i had no choice but to throw a mates stockies from his camry on. BTW, that night i found out my spare was a holden spare... |

I can understand it at places like The Summernats for cars entering the burnouts, or whatever, but when I see a car on the street with that look I cringe every time.
Personally I hate the look. Especially on P Plater cars. Quote:

All bogans who dont have enough power or cant corner fast enough to hang the back out.
The only way to live their playstation dreams is to dumb things down by removing grip by fitting sh!tty cheap tyres. Or they cant afford to do burnouts on decent tyres. Which can easily be solved by getting a promotion from 'casual' to 'full time' burger engineer at McDonalds. |

why do people do rat rods, why do others modify with aftermarket fads
because that is what they like - sometimes understanding why they like it is difficult, but who cares. it isn't my car to worry about and if i had one similar, theirs would just make mine look better to me anyway - a win for them and a win for me |

That IS funny! He must have had the front wheel drive model! The 4wd wouldn't have worked with different tyre sizes! Maybe he's using the stockies as anchors???

All of Youse guys suck! I have 13 inch steelies (from a four cylinder vc commodore) with 155/70/13 bob jane all-rounders on my VN. It is WAY COOL!!! I have Brock 05 stickers on the front guard and a HSV badge on the boot lid righ tnext to the executive badge. My awesome talon wing (i paid cash to a mate who nicks stuff from autobarn) looks eff'n sweet as with 7, yes SEVEN 'No Fear' stickers on it. I just pop rivetted a vl walkinshaw bonnet scoop to it as well.
Me and my 17 mates all climb into it and the 13's hold up well. I've 19's on the front, to eliminate understeer. It's all about livin the dream. I'm a hard dude. I don't talk about thrashin my car - I just thrash it. My ecotec 3.8 is so smooth and quiet you would never even know it only runs on 5 cylinders. I once beat a Porsche turbo in it - HONEST! It is fully sick and sweet as. I recently put some second hand SONY EXPLOD speakers in it and it has awesome treble. The chicks dig it. Every time we yell out at chicks from the car, they smile and laugh coz they are so honoured to get attention from a race car like mine. I hope to trade up to a ba XR6 soon. I'm gonna put some 14's from my uncles' XF on the back with a 175/60/14 Kenda or Wanli tyre. Live the dream. Turn your car into a fully sick race, drag, burnout, v8 supercar, formula one, nascar, taxi, pimpmobile. Stick steelies on the back... YOu too can be as cool as me.. LIVE THE DREAM!!!! |

Its a sad look, I asked a young bloke a few years ago whats the story and his reply " it means your a burner " I still laugh at that.
20 years ago if you were tight for cash a common theme when buying wheels was get the rears first and run steelies on the front. |

I had steelies on the back once. Got hassled every day. Only did it cos I sold my xr wheels and had to wait for my eleanors to come in. But the car handled/drove terribly. So never again.

After reading this eailer today, i went to wash my car late this afternoon and discovered that i have a flat tyre. So i'll be getting around with one rear wheel being a steelie for a while. Also it's the right rear, so all the oncoming traffic will think i'm cool. :sm_headba

I can't believe no one has said it. The answer is obvious.

wow.. some of these responses are actually amazing..
yes, people put stockies on the back for burnouts/drifting. but would you risk wasting expensive tyres and damaging mags? makes sense to me. why not just change one rim? well sometimes rolling diameters arnt the same. why not change the front too? id prefer having better grip up front personally... iv never done this, probs never will. but why is it such a big deal? if it was such a 'cop bait' thing to do, how come its still happening?
