If youre car has a alarm fitted just install a pin switch on the filler door running off the alarm. Catch the a-holes in the act.

Yes i do think a locking fuel cap will deter dumb criminals. I would consider anyone that needs to steal fuel dumb. I would also call anyone that rubbishes people for trying everything they can to protect themselves dumb.
Anyway, getting OT and this really serves no purpose. FWIW, I have a locking fuel cap too - I just dont place much trust in it.

Just on this idea...does anyone know if the Factory Ford Alarm for the Territory would sound if the fuel door was forced open?

as said before, most people would only have a jerry or two to fill up, therefore the most fuel they could steal in a hurry in $60 worth, i would run an alarm on my fillercap.

most people cant find my fuel cap cuz its behing the numberplate lol, oh no! i have just given a hint to any DUMB crims on this site hhaha

I've never lost fuel out of the muzzy and it has no lock on the cap or a flap to hide the cap. Just put the car away at night or get a dog. Problem solved.

i suggest the people living in these areas only put 1/4-1/2 a tank of fuel in at a time so if they do get in then they wont get much

This is a bit off the topic. A few weeks ago I was filling up with LPG, and another vehicle was on the pump opposite me, with a bigger LPG tank. This other driver quoted my pump number, which was less than his, to the console operator, and only paid that amount. I paid for my pump as well - the correct amount. So this left the console operator $10.00 out of pocket.

Apparently around Canberra, they don't even bother with the cap or anti-siphon tricks. They just stick a screwdriver though your petrol tank and drain the lot. Now that's lots of $ to fix.

Useless lockable caps, plastic tanks - Sounds like some kind of additional protection is required. Does anyone know where you can buy guard funnelweb spiders from?

A few years ago (well more than a few years ago) we were having the same problem in Sydney's southern suburbs during fuel strikes. We disconnected our fuel filler necks and (with difficulty) placed a coffee jar lid in the rubber hose after drilling masses of holes and then reassembled everything. Inexpensive, but effective. Came out one morning and found a bit of hose hanging out of the fuelfiller neck. No more problems.

alot of people steal numberplates and fit them to their cars then fill up and drive off.. happened to a car i was buying. within 3 days of the car sitting there unused the plates were stolen and reported to be used to steal fuel.. apparently happens a fair bit in sydney... just glad it happened before i bought the car lol

geez I'll have to try that one next time. :

I reckon setting up a fake fuel filler where the existing one is, make it look real, and connecting it to a small tank of your urine is the key for these mongrels. suck on this u thieving scum! :

That way you could have a secret filler area unknown to most and fill up the tank that way.

Some theives broke into a mates farm shed here a while back and pinched a full 44 and a few jerry's full!
Funny thing is, being on the farm everything runs on diesel but the 44 was full of kero. The flea bags oviously thought it was diesel and about a week later one of the young blokes utes in town blew a motor!
Yeah not obvious at all

Diesel engines will run quite efficiently on kero. When I was a diesel mechanic will used to re fill all the new fuel filters with kero. There must have been another reason for his engine failure because this wouldn’t do it, especially over a period of one week.

Yeah Kero and Diesel are very similar - Jet A1 is again similar to Kero. Which is why most turbines (e.g. jet engines) will run a whole range of fuels, diesel and kerosene included.

Cessna is releasing a new piston engined aircraft that will run on Jet A1, Kerosene and diesel.

I didn't know the bloke who pinched the fuel, weather or not his ute was petrol or diesel but I assumed diesel.

That's intersting about the kero in diesels, i've heard whispers to that effect (Jet A1) but never really knew!

Cheers.

I remember back in NZ 3yrs ago some people used to fuel up at this servo with a lotto outlet, pay for the ticket then drive off while things were busy. The police got called each time but there answer was to busy more important stuff to do.
