Go join a proper comp round and nearly all of you will cry, as the two shots carry over, you can shoot backward, if you pot red/yellow on the break you can still nominate to play the other colour. if you dont hit a cushion its a foul and if your whit ball is touching another you must play away.
In Comp its 2 shots on all fouls. and they carry, the idea is not to foul. If you foul you deserve the 2 shots played against you. You will actually have a ref standin calling 2 shots remaining, 1 shot remaining and end of visit. |

I played "B" grade comp in WA last year and QLD a few years ago. good fun, just a bunch of us from the pub got involved to make up numbers and its the only time there are no arguments on rules. Its Internationally Ruled.

whenever I've played pool in S.A, it's been 2 shots IF:
you sink the white. you sink black and your not on it yet. you hit the other players ball type with the white. you don't hit any ball with the white.

Exactly, 2 shots is what I've always known throughout WA, VIC, etc.
Damn Sydney folk ;)

You sink the black and youre not on it, game over, you lose! How are you going to retrieve the black if you are playing at the pub? Tip the table upside down and shake it until it falls out a pocket???? lol

I like our local rules.
No rules until the black & if you sink the white whilst going for the black its game to the opposition. Only exception to that ( theres always an exception :P ) is that if the other sinks the white you get to place it in the semi circle. Never a 2 shot penalty, thats like your not capable of sinking your balls properly :P Only other rule is the nuddy run if you get all your balls left on the table ............ Glad I can play pool |

Ok so take the scenario already put in front of us.
She misses all the balls, he s got 2 shots, he pots one, therefore he still has 2 visits remaining. He pots another still 2 visits remaining. then he misses, 1 visit remaining. misses again, end of visit. The other scenario mentioned. He misses on his 1 visit, then sinks on his second, he has one shot left from sinking the ball and thats end of visit. As for Mother Natures comment, In Pool there is no "D" or semi crcle, only the line. You can place your white anywhere behind the line. |

Pub pool is like backyard cricket though - rules of whoever's backyard it is apply - naturally comp pool has set rules. Some rules for pool allow for the player to place the cue ball whereever they like, not two shots. Just because the one comp you play in has two shots doesn't mean that's applicable for every comp. Pool/billiards has a huge number of variations.

I've had a heap of mates with pool table's and thats the way everyone i know has played. Unless it's only a Victorian thing. you get to miss potting a ball twice, hence 2 free shots first free shot.....if the first ball goes in your still on your first free shot, on the next hit if the ball doesn't go in thats the end of your first free shot. Second free shot... same apllies to the above if your playing it as.... you hit a ball, ball goes in, 2nd shot ball doesn't go in end of your 2 free shots, thats not really 2 free shots as thats how you play a normal shot. A free 2 shots means just that, 2 normaly played shots. In normal play if you mess up one shot it goes to the next person. iF you mess up on your first free shot out of 2 free shots no matter how many balls you have allready potted it then goes to your 2nd free shot

I was simply refering to 8 ball traditional pool. Snooker and billiards are a different kettle of fish. And as for Pub rulles, heell yeah all for em, if we're at the local, there is no Total call, no must hit a cusion and no play away. and we only give away 1 shot on the black.

http://www.bca-pool.com/play/tournam.../rls_8bl.shtml
".14 FOUL PENALTY Opposing player gets cue ball in hand. This means that the player can place the cue ball anywhere on the table (does not have to be behind the headstring except on opening break). This rule prevents a player from making intentional fouls which would put an opponent at a disadvantage. With “cue ball in hand,” the player may use a hand or any part of a cue (including the tip) to position the cue ball. When placing the cue ball in position, any forward stroke motion contacting the cue ball will be a foul, if not a legal shot. (Also see Rule 3.39.) " What comps play these rules?

I dont think you should get a pass if you sink the opponents balls though. Maybe we should come up with some unified FF pool rules, you know, just in case? |

..if you sink a ball, skull a pot. If you foul, you must skull a pint of raw soda water (before they add pre-mix to make coke, etc.)

IN the VB/VC era of the commodores they released a 4 Cyl, same engine as the Sunbird and same results, heavy *** car with no balls. they didnt sell well and alot ended up with 6's or 8's transplanted in them. there are 1 or 2 still around though.
But as for the camira, you dont drive a camira anyway, you push em or use em as garden ornaments. |

2 shots?! Pool was my major at Uni and if you gave most of the players there 2 shots you may as well call it game over then and there.
You foul the other guy gets to play, that's often penalty enough. To make games last longer we also brought in what I believe is a European rule. You have to sink the black into the pocket you sunk your last ball in. If you foul on the black or sink it in any pocket other than the pocket you sunk your last ball in, you lose. |

Must be a silly New South Welshman rule, they seem to be the only ones not using the 2 shot rule.
Everywhere I've played in Vic, as well as QLD, Bali, and Vanuatu play the rule of if you are awarded 2 shots, you still get those 2 shots after you have potted however many of your correct colour/numbered balls. You miss a shot, that is 1 shot. Or, if you miss everything the next person gets the 2 shots. My mates old man was Malaysian army champion and Vic State Champion over 50's even plays that rule! |
