Money no object, I would have bought a BMW 130i but it's not an option in the poll.
My old lady has a 120i and i understand where you are coming from with the 130i, that 6 engine note would be stunning and they do look the part with the kit.. But as a hatch it has no rear passenger room whatsoever, so if you have family or regularly carry passengers its probly not ideal.. Funnily enough i find myself carting around the family in my two door zetec alot of the time as it has a shietload more space.. Despite that i wouldn't be complaining if they decided to upgrade to the 130i :

R26 for me. The "normal" RS Megane 225 Cup was recently voted the best driver's car in a current comparo against the HSV VXR, 3 MPS, Golf GTi and XR5; given the improvements in the R26 (LSD etc.) it should be one very nice car through the twisty bits.

Here's some info on them for anyone who hasn't heard much about what they are:

I would have thought the MPS would be well in front...

Any car that outguns an Aston Marton, Porsche, HSV, etc from 80-120 deserves my respect, especially when it comes from a Mazda hatchback!!!

Only thing I don't like about the R32 is the exhaust note on them. Didn't like it one bit was very tinny

MPS or Type-R for me. I have encountered the MPS (both 3 and 6) on a road and they go good in comparison with my car so definately good cars. The Type-R is just horn though!

I'd probably be happy though with anything besides the last 4 choices.

Has anyone read the latest Wheels mag with their test on the Type R? Far from complimentary and a bit surprising- they make the handling/ride sound very average and the torque not good enough for the weight of it.

The wording makes it sound like it isn't anywhere near as good in the handling department as the XR5 or GTi.

They probably don't like it becuase it has a twist-beam rear suspensions(same as fiesta) while the others have fully independant systems.

It was always going to be disadvantaged over the true multi-linkers like the Focus and Golf. Wheels would be more accurate in their analysis.

Motor will fang it hard, do some burnouts, post a quick quarter and give it performance car of the year without ever needing to touch the steering wheel.

Well that shows them rating the top three very very close indeedily.

As with most cars you buy really what you think looks good.

I dont think the Civic looks good... looks horrible :S

They give the Civic number one.... Golf GTI number 2.... XR5 number 3 but say it came close to number 1.
So the top three at least were very very close in their eyes.

Thanks for that. Very informative. I'd like a black GTI please but only in a 3door. If we had the 3door Focus, it'd be tough choice for me. Really don't like the look of the Type R in red.
