i remember a number of years ago we were travelling behind an old bomb that was burning more oil than petrol. the fella got out at the traffic lights and started abusing my dad because he saw him holding his nose "havnt you ever had an old car before??".

if you catch someone on an off day it takes very little for them to take minor traffic issues very personally.

exactly barry. I pretty much refuse to use my horn to avoid these situations.

Shane, a few things.

(1) who gives a shit about your car
(2) who gives a shit about them
(3) all that matters is you and your loved ones are hear to tell the tale..

i wouldnt worry about seeking revenge, problems start when victoms continue the acromony. If you contact the police well and good, let them do the work (lets see them try and get a job with an agrovated asault charge, you dont need to make physical contact to be charged with assault). However i wouldnt go seeking vigilanty sytle revenge, chances are if you do the situation could turn very very ugly.

Sorry to hear that, I've never had the same thing happen to me, ever. Nothing even remotely close. Admittedly though I don't drive my car even remotely aggressively (leave that to when I'm on my bike), and try to stick to the main car conventions like dont drive on right lane etc.

I know I personally go rank when people go slow in the right lane. It's as if they don't understand how dangerous it is.

Call me a neandathol if you will but it pulls a nerve to know that there are inocent people being terrorised on our streets by jelous thugs, who have no regard for the road users who are only trying toget from point A to B. But thats just me. it:

Shane, I hate people that do not reaspect the road and other road users. They normaly drive peices of SH!T and lack lenth in the pants.....

If you called the police when you wasted a call.

Unfortunately carrying an iron bar in the car is a chargeable offence as it can be classed as a concealed weapon. Also if you are threatened by another driver and defend yourself with a bar or something, you can be charges with assault with a weapon.

It is not worth it. This is the way our justice system word and why there are so many drivers doing this.

Best thing you can do is call him and tell him you want to buy his car and get his address. Then visit him at night and make sure the car can not go back on the road.

At the set of lights before he tried to cut in on me, he was reving his car and moveing closer and closer to a guy on a moped, I'm talking less then 3 inches away from the back end of the poor guy on the scooter, all of them were hanging out of the car yelling at him, and none of them had seatbelts on (I guess so they could get ot of the car quicker) the wife has said not to do any thing about it, but I have given the details to the cops and the mobile phone no# on his car has been disconected (I wanted to tell him what a nice person he is!!!!)

Well I have had this happen when i was 17 and just on my P's in my auto Sigma. Someone I used to call a mate was intelligent enough to throw a maccas bag at this big bastard standing next to his mate who was in a 300ZX. Well, sure enough he jumped into his mates car and they chased us through the back streets swerving around and signalling for us to pull over. No chance in hell! I luckily got to a main road (in peak hour traffic) and stopped becuase of traffic. His mate got out and abused us and told us to get out of the car - this is infront of about 20 cars - and 'sort this shit out'. We just sat there until he got so annoyed that his just smashed my bonnet with his fist and got back into his mates 300ZX and sped off. Pretty scary really.

Another wonderful reason to have a club lock!!! I would hate to be the guy who would cop the end of my club lock! it has a big metal claw thing you wrap around the steering wheel.. its would hurt... alot.
Luckily nothing bad has happened so far to me... we just have the usuall set of dickheads up here but they dont seem to chase me when i use the horn thank gawd! The other night on the way to the casino, in the space of 30 seconds we almost had two accidents!! One guy almost running through a read light.. he stopped in the middle of the intersection.. just missing us... then there was this dick just reversing back from the one way street..... almost into us!!!! : euuugh!

As for me as I'm an old fart and don't have too much to lose...I walk very softly and carry a big stick, but I always assess the odds. If there against me I use the law if there not...then justice is carried out.

The end result is you should always keep yourself inside the law where possible...otherwise be prepared to wear the consequences.

shane3, if it's not to personal, just how are you disabled.
John, I didn't offer any advice, I simply said, "If it was me, I would have done....". And no, I don't have a grudge, as XA Coupe would vouch, both he and I are ex-coppers and the one thing you don't do is let these idiots get away with it. That's why they do what they do, because not enough people stand their ground and give it back to them. I am not a young bloke either, I'm in my mid forties but I have never backed down from smartarses or guys with big mouths & attitudes.

Next to St Vincent Hospital you say? Maybe these guys just left the mental institution (if there is one) and hit the road there.

JAJH, if I misinterpreted I apologise, however you and XA Coupe have an advantage over the majority of people out there...in as much as you already have a much better understanding of the law. And maybe being ex coppers you get an advantage with your former colleages if they have to turn up to your incident.
I too played games for 31 yrs in a blue uniform...retired firie..I know what its like your called bludgers..etc..etc.. until their **** catches fire and they need you.

Luckily, for me I'm a big ugly barstard who if my back is to wall...I'm the one who walks away. However I don't think people who don't have an understanding of the law or are'nt big and ugly like me should put themselves in a bad position.

I've got go now the missus needs the phone to call her young-un.Will cont.later.

A 3 or 4 cell maglite, or a club lock would be ideal. Personally, I keep a 3 cell maglite between the drivers seat and the door, just in case. Haven't needed it yet, but came very close today, when a magna nearly cut the nose off my car (merged right without looking). A full ABS stop was the only thing that saved my freshly washed and waxed car!

Shane, you did the right thing by driving away. Idiots like these are most probably lacking in most areas of their lives - just think how lucky we are.

I actually have a couple of top tubes from some bicycles in the ute (from warrantied bikes we cut up at work), and hopefully I will never have to use them. Being mostly on the road on a pushbike, we cop a lot of flack from motorists. There are certain riding groups who do the wrong thing (eg Critical Mass - f&*wits!!!) and give us all a bad name, but for the most part, especially working in the industry, we try to do the right thing. But sometimes, we do have to give some back. It is funny when motorists come up and abuse you for doing nothing wrong (they just hate cyclists), thinking you're a poof in lycra or something, but when they get closer up and see me and other mates with tatts poking out from under the lycra everywhere, they change their tune awful quick. I wonder if having the word hate in big letters on my leghas anything to do with it?? used: Mind you, I don't think violence is always the answer. Some of the time definately, but a lot of the time, no.

Chin up Shane. Take care, it's a jungle out there.

I keep "4 cell" Mag light next to my drivers seat, definately wont put up with dick heads touching my car my self or my loved ones.
I have done time by sticking up for myself, unfortunately these dickheads will squeel blue murder if they instigate it, and they end up copping a flogging.
I never start trouble if i am on the road or out enjoying myself, but if someone decides they want to start with me, i cant help but retelliate, that has landed me battered and bruised, and in the can a few times over the years, when maybe i should of walked away and bit my tongue.

Well done Shane for showing some restraint, especially in front of your Mrs, i wouldnt of been able to help myself.

One night on the way back from the city with a mate and this chick we pulled up at a set of lights to see an asian kid 16-17 lean out of a window of a wrx with a chain and start hitting the car next to it. The car was full of girls and bugger knows why they were doing it. As we all took off from the lights i got behind this car and stayed at the same pace with the girls, they got ****ed about this and tried to get behind me and then just pulled to the wrong side of the road and jumped on the brakes. The girl went throught a red light as i pulled up, another kid leant out the oppisite window with a bar and my mate grabbed the kid and dragged him out the window b4 he had a chance to hit my car and gave him a good boot to the head, 5 of them get out and we take off. WIthin seconds 5 other cars start chasing us throwing shit out the window and swinging bars and chains out the window. Lucky we werent to far from where we lived and managed to get a few mates to head out as these blokes weren't going away. 3 carloads of our mates turn up and all i see is the wrx spin out as we race through a roundabout, the bloke my mate was living with was a bit of a nutter and shunted the wrx out of his way in his battered VS shitbox then tried to hit a 2oosx. As we pulled into a local maccas where a heap of people were waiting they seen how many people were there and took off which was lucky for us.

In the following weeks it happened a few times and was in the paper with the police saying dont egg them on just drive to the nearest police station. It was a group of 30-4o asian school boy wanna b's from cabramatta who would go out and look for trouble and say they owned the area, 1 car starts it them the rest come out of nowhere. Seems they messed with the wrong bloke one night, he got out and flogged 3 of them then he got bashed by the rest. Within an hour 5o Bikies were out looking for them and asked people who they were or if they knew them. A month later it was in the papers saying that it happened again, this time 23 shots were fired into 5 cars. Never saw or heard of these blokes again.

It pays to be extreamly carefull these days, it seems that certain groups of people like trouble and fight in numbers. I carry 2 baseball bats in my car all the time, i dont look for trouble but if it starts ill be the one to finish it.

Shane it was probally just dickheads being just that, in your position with family in the car you did the right thing no question. I'd rather get flogged having a go then have some ****wit thinking he put it over me, 90% of the time if you physc up and go straight for them they back off and dissapear real quick. But if i had kids and they were with me they'd come first.

But like said b4 be very carefull of your ride, it's a well know thing in sydney for people to lose their car when it appears to be roadrage. Same as if you car gets hit by a beatup shitta be very carefull.

Build a bridge and get over it. If you are going to let every thing like that worry you then you may as well stay at home. I speak from experince because i whent to the aid of a woman at a servo one day stoped her from being raped. Held my own with the three blocks that tryed. And all the thanks i got was we will need you in court. Theses days i just look stait ahead and dont bother with what others do, if the cut me off they cut me off there are to many people out there to worry about every thing that happens.

If you can honestly say you'd walk past and let that happen your as gutless and a bigger coward then them. I nearly lost 7 years of my life to a very similar thing, i have no regrets doing it and i'd do it again. Althought it was one of my closest friends i woulnd't think twice about doing it again, seeing what these victoms have to live with for the rest of their lives is bullshit. The penelty for rape should be DEATH. My friend wouldn't let anyone touch her or get close to her for nearly two years afterwards besides me, if i made a sudden movement she'd jump.
