Its also full of rattles, the plastics are all loose

Both cars were one owners with full history, both cars have done interstate trips in our posession, both soaked up the k's.

Say what you like about Camry's, but in every department apart from outright pace, they leave the Falcon for dead.
Taxis operators are still buying a few EcoLPI Falcons so despite the Hybrids' lower operating costs, it appears that other factors are swaying some buyers.

As has been said before, no one said that everyone had to buy Camrys. If you don't want one, don't buy one. Simples!

And here's a healthy tip for you. If you don't want people to continually deride your opinions, maybe you should consider doing the same for others' opinions.

As a reliable cheap appliance Camrys are good. For the average person who just wants a transport device and doesn't care about handling or style, I would recommend one.

I had a rentacar Aurion in NZ some years ago and I quite liked it. The missus didn't, she said it was bland and uninspiring. That is true of the Camry/Aurion. But they are reliable and have great resale values. We test drove one again before buying the XR50. She still hated it. But then again, she's not a big fan of the XR50 either.

Toyota has actually changed it to 9 months/15K due to flack they copped for the 6 month interval. At least, unlike Subaru, they only charged $130 each time. But I think over long ownership, the Toyota would be more expensive to service over the Falcon capped service. Toyota only does capped price servicing for the first 4 services.

Slightly off topic, but I'd love to see the FMECA done to see why one manufacturer thinks that a servicing interval can carry a 9 month elapsed time schedule for their product whilst another identifies a 12 month elapsed time interval for their product, but both for the same quantity operational units (in this case 15000 kilometres).

For those who aren't familiar with FMECA, it stands for Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis, a component of the Reliability Centred Maintenance philosophy.

Maybe chuck this thread in the bar. Have it in the poll on gay and lesbian marriages. For, against, or buys a Camry?

Most are heading towards the Korean brands now. With people being more frugal with their wallets when it comes to cars, not caring where its made and that 5yr warranty, more are probably being swayed from the trusty camry and going for these other brands.

I rented and drove a Camry for a day.
Why?
Because I lost a bet.
If my mate had lost, it would have been him renting and driving.

The other thing about driving a boring Camry is that because it is probably more reliable and cheaper to run the owner can spend the savings on other things, eg. a motorbike, or school fees for his/her kids, or mortgage payments, or holidays.

Too lazy to work it out after a long week but I suspect that for someone earning say $80 k per year and riving 400 kms per week the difference between a new G6E turbo and a new base model Corolla (admittedly even worse than a Camry) would be a nine day fortnight :-)

Hey dont get me wrong, i love my Egas wagon, cheaper to run that the 4cyl Camry, way more room, more get up and go, but it doesnt hold a candle to the Camry's build quality.

The Camry has silver accents all through it and all perfect, the BF has wrinkled door handle trims and shifter cover, everytime i put my hand on the shifter it reminds me of the povo finish Falcons get.

As for handling which someone else mentioned, i cant comment on the base model, but the Sportivo gets revised dampers and 17" alloys and runs on rails, i cant fault its handling.

Had my Camry three years now and thoroughly recommend it.

It's Australian made (not that most care about that as much as they used to) and so is a great long distance chariot on crappy roads. Great dust sealing and headlights, dead reliable, nice and comfy.

It's a hybrid so has the firm suspension and plenty of power for a family car and lifetime average mid 5s litres per 100km. Doesn't handle as well as a Commodore but is a far tidier handler than the now common SUV and drives nicer than the smaller cars that costs about as much.

Not perfect, but it's a good unit.

Although I wouldn’t say my cousin is into extreme sports he does surf, rock climbs, has his pilot’s licence, I’ve known of him to skydive and his idea of a holiday is to trek off into no man’s land and he has two Toyotas with one being a white Camry.

During his late teens and early 20’s he had a Panel Van and a couple of other V8’s.

I asked him years ago why he was driving a Camira and he told me he doesn’t have time to care about cars anymore and even though I haven’t asked him I’d bet he’d still same the same today about his Camry.

To him life is more important than cars.

Fool.

It might be hard to comprehend around here but I'd say the vast majority of people derive zero enjoyment from driving at all (even those who could easily afford nice cars) and get their kicks elsewhere on any number of things.

The Camry does exactly what it promises to do, nothing more and nothing less. I'd be more inclined to go for the Aurion myself though if I was anywhere near in that market.

At this time in life I’d say I’d never want to own one but I’m not so closed minded I can’t understand why people do.

My wife and I occasionally go to the club for lunch with friends and my mate and I alternated the driving duties so one or the other of us can have a few beers.

We easily pile into his Camry with the scratches all over the rear and front bars and we’re on our way and he parks anywhere he can fit it in.

The back of my C63 is a squeeze and isn’t really made for 4 adults but you can get by on short trips, I drop them off at the door and then drive off to find a park out back of the black stump where I hope no-one will park near it and mark it.

His car is far more practical than mine.

But I know which one I want to own.

Owned 2 Camry's.

1988 version did 354,000 before retiring it.

Only thing that went wrong from memory was replacing a set of leads.

2003 version, currently the to work and back 2nd car.

It's got 306,000 on it and only thing gone wrong is the dash clock stopped working about a year ago.

I chose Camry's cause I need a 2nd car I don't need to think about. I don't have my self esteem caught up in what I drive and I certainly don't need to buy my self worth. And after driving 600,000+kms in them I clearly don't seem to give a toss about opinion.

I'm on $100K and the wife $120K, we certainly have options when it comes to what we could drive but neither of us are driven by what others may think. Not how you get ahead in life.

If you want involved driving pick something else for sure.

If you want something you can do anything to and it next to never argues back, pick Camry.

Yeah it's good to have something that feels pretty solid. My Camry and has no problems with getting to our property crossing fire trails or creeks, whereas my current work Colorado shudders and clunks and buzzes on the same roads.

My favourite car is my FG Falcon cab chassis. But I get real enjoyment clocking up mega long distance kms across this beautiful country in the Camry. Set the cruise, sit back in the roomy cabin and enjoy the drive. Actually I had the choice to drive my brothers new Audi A5 over 1200km to my folks house and I still chose the Camry lol.

as much as I hate to say it the above comment and ones like it are on the money.
the comments such as white goods .bland. brain dead transport and such
reflect just how reliable Camry's have always been though

white goods... fridge .washing machine. stove . these get the job done without pain for years without servicing or general maintenance .and most times you can onsell these at a good price ...just like Camry's

bland.... ever seen a stylish fridge washing machine stove??? still gets the job done well though......just like Camry's

braindead transport .... you don't have to think about the driving.. just get on with it..safe, unexciting ,efficient ,

it needs to be said that I have not owned Camry's as a personal car though I have sold a couple and did some major panel work on several so I have respect for them and would easily recommend them to friends

would we own one for personal use ??
no...
why?

we own a TS Territory
and nothing under 50 grand equals them for drive ,ride ,handling

as yet anyhow
