Hmmm... So Thorpie's not gay, right? That was the point everyone was trying to push across not so long ago, wasn't it? Yet all of a sudden Australia's "Golden Boy" can't compete at the commonwealth games? And all we hear of his reasons why for however long is that he is suffering from some sort of "mystery illness"?

Isn't it weird how all those questions (and there really is so many questions), have so many words making them up, yet the answer to all of them is about as simple as answers come. Completely summed up with four simple letters.

Asshole Injected Death Sentance, methinks?

He is a champion, the greatest swimmer ever and all you guys are having a go about him being a pillow biter... Shame on you all :P ... He had one press conference to publicly withdraw from the games (not like a soap opera re- Jana Pitman) If I'd bought tickets to the pool the nights of his finals to watch another Aussie gold I'd be disappointed he isn't swimming...

I thought he was a bit strange at the trials a few months back...he seemed not very intrested or motivated in his interviews. Stuff like "I'm not looking foreward to my event but I'm glad to be back" or "I'm glad to have finished the race when I get get out of the pool"

There's no doubting what he's done and his ability but it seemed like he didnt have the hunger for it at that event

I'm sorry, but I am one of the few that isn't sick of Thorpe.

I don't think you can deny what he has achieved, and if he makes millions of dollars from sponsorship, and gets paid to wear designer clothes, well good on him. We had a thread on here devoted to modern fashion and how there is a trend for heterosexual men to look gay, maybe the fact that he is the ambassador for Armani means that his attention to fashion makes him appear the same as the collar popping pink t shirt wearing men.

Regardless of his sexuality, I think he has always seemed very considerate of the media, articulate and modest. He is one of the greatest swimmers of all time, and from a publicity perspective, the Commonwealth Games has just lost a major drawcard. I mean, we don't have the USA or China to make it competitive, so may as well have someone like Thorpe to pull the crowds.

(.......and I do not think Ian Thorpe is in any way attractive so this is not one of those chick in love with Thorpy defences)

I agree, whatever Thorpie has is because he earnt it. Why does everyone feel it is neccersary for Thorpie to come out? You would all be having a whinge for telling everyone, if he is its no ones business but his.

Its not Thorpies fault its all over the media, blame the journos.

Although, I do agree that he doesnt appear to be motivated or enthusiastic to be in the pool.

I heard he couldnt make the games, as he's flying out to the good ol' US of A to audition for the sequel to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Word is the movie will be called BAREBACK MOUNTING.

Nothing but a little athletics carnival... If Australia can't still do well without Thorpie (not that I care) then it's a national tragedy... not

in all seriousness, he only piked because he timed his return poorly, his form wasn't where he anticipated so why enter if you can't win. another point I think that would come back to haunt him through the games was the fact that he was so juiced up on 'banned substances' (in the medicines he's been taking) that they would show up on any random tests that the officials might run. considering he has been one of the most vocal athletes over performance enhancing drugs in the last few years, it would've been the perfect ammo for others he's pointed the finger at.
anyway, he'll have to sit this one out.
For all the people out there querying whether or not he's a bowel prowler, we can only guess based on personal opinions and innuendo but I did hear that he preferred all his medicines as a suppository.

Tibbo, I thought you knew better mate. :P (No offence...)

He has been driven down our throats since before the Commonwealth Games Swimming Trials, is he gonna race, he is racing, he didn't swim well, he's sick, he's pulling out of the Games.

Who really ИИИИin cares anymore?

He's like Phillipoussis. Comes back, does s**thouse, leaves for ages, comes back, well, you get the picture. It's a vicious cycle.

I heard it's an internal dispute becasue they wouldn't let him design the australian team uniforms.
During his year off, He became quite the Fashion Guru *cough* *cough*, and when the organisers refused to listen to his suggestions of netted string vests and mountain goat hair pants, he got the ИИИИs.

I'l admit that in some professionally designed clothes, he has the right body to showcase the clothes.... too bad his personal taste leaves a lot to be desired (cutting edge fashion doesn't mean it's good, just new)

It's only a matter of time before he contracts AIDS. He could just come out and admit that he is that way inclined.
