hmm the front end just remind me of the Ford Focus and the rear end is defenatly is an Atsra back. The car is alright but the drive i like to see should book myself into a test drive and see how it feel

Thats really something they should be proud of, especially after the Holden means a great deal to Australia crap.

i think they should have a higher local content but Holden is a Business. If the local manurfacturers can't compete on quality and price (and technology) then why should Holden have to buy from them?

I think it would be great for all aussie cars to be ALL Aussie, but if that mean paying $40, 000 plus on roads for a base model then u can forget it!!

Then they shouldn't promote being more Australian than anyone else. Toyota and Ford use more than 80% local content. For Holden to use half local content just because they screwed up how much money they spent on development costs is just discraceful. After spending so much money on VE it was the only way they could keep the costs down, even though most models are rumoured to be more than $2000 more expensive than the VZ.

i don't think they screwed up spending on Development costs. Hell this car is new from the ground up, its not simply and overseas design modified for Australia. Being and all new design u should be able to appreciate the costs involved in that.

Even Holden admit they overspent. They were planning to spread development costs across a host of different models, but since GM canned most of them bar the Camaro they got stuck with it.

Hardly new from the ground up when the engines and driveline will basically be carry over bar the 6 speed auto and a few changes to the engines.

Whatever the VE Commodore looks like (and in my opinion, its conservative but beautifully executed, I mean really, EVERY time a new Commodore or Falcon is launched we go through the same crap of 'its a copy of this and that') it will be a VERY rough time for the BF Falcon and its subsequent facelifts up until the Orion is launched in 2008. The Falcon now looks instantly dated next to the VE, particularly in the interior, panel fit, detail (based on the Hi-Res images we've all seen)...well everywhere except for the ZF transmissions. Oh and stop complaining about the Omega's 4 speed auto. The current BF XT has one too.

Fuel consumption is only an issue because of the current 'oil crisis'. As long as the VE doesn't use significantly more fuel than the VZ, I'm not worried. All 3 of the 'large' cars sold in Aust (380, Falcon, Commodore) are within about 1L/100km of each other anyways. People bleating about how much fuel 6 cylinder cars use are missing the point. They are large 6 cyclinder cars. There's no getting past that. People also forget that The Commodore is still the nations best selling car, followed closely by the Falcon. Thats not going to change anytime soon (The Corolla only outsold the VZ last month as it was deep in runout mode).

The VE Commodore has a HUGE potential to be a success overseas, especially now that it has been designed with US compliance in mind. I would suggest that any possible drop in sales locally will be more than compensated with increased sales to overseas markets, such as the Middle East, Brazil, South Africa, parts of Asia etc etc.

If you had the choice of a brand new large car designed and engineered here with world class safety, panel fit, quality and superior resale, versus a brand new large car based on a 8 year old design generally good safety, awkward panel fit, iffy interior quality and reasonable resale, what would you choose? Seriously?
