My internet is the proverbial tortoise Vs the hare.. I have adsl 1 1500/256 connection... I know what you are gonna say... Mine is SO much faster !!!! How do you put up with such a slow speed ???? Simple really.... I downloaded 340Gb of data last month....

Sometimes faster isn't always better..... :-)

The upload looks a bit slow for ADSL2+ and the latency is fairly high. Make sure you do not have any background tasks running and then try the following:

1) ping 139.130.4.5 (ns1.telstra.net) if you get higher than 50 or 60ms you either have some tasks running or your ISP has some congestion on your node.

2) run the speed test on several servers, the results will tend to vary. If you get an upload of over 350Kb/s then it is definitely ADSL2 (just a sucky one)

If you cannot get above 350Kb/s try a completely different router and remove any filters. If still low then you may be on ADSL(1) or just on a low grade service. Although this comment will draw the crabs from the true believers and "netsperts" not all connectivity is the same and the cheapest are almost always the worst as they are often overloaded.

Open a msdos prompt. Start->run. Type cmd

Then type
ping "name of server to ping"
eg ping telstra.com

A ping measures how long it takes for a packet to travel to the server and back. It is a measure of latency. Smaller ping times are better. The closer the server the quicker the ping should be.

If the speed test shows high ping times that can indicate that the server is a long way away, via a number of router hops.

Mine on Superfast optus. Not entirely sure about this speed test as i'm recieving at least triple the upload speeds indicated and between double and triple the download speeds.
