Not sure what is scarier, that car, or the fact that they make body kits for Camrys.

With the money they'll spend finishing the Camry, they could've gotten a better car. Much prefer a stock gtr/supra etc etc etc than a tarted up Camry.

Mid 80's to probably mid 90's, alot of people drove older cars. At that time Ford had it allover Holden for engine choice and size. 302 Windsor and Clevo, or 351 Windsor and Clevo's vs 253 or 308. Post 1975 vehicles had to retain factory year model engines to retain ADR27a compliance. If you wanted to have more capacity in your Holden, the best way was to run a Chev. Easy to do in a pre '75 car, but requiring a gas conversion to run in a post 75 car.

The Chev badge was fitted alot of the time to inform Ford drivers that it was not a stock Holden they were going against. It was a sure fire way to inform every one that your car had balls. Remember that this was a time before injection was the norm.

Current Holdens V8's are sourced direct from the States in the way of crate motors. Thank the Australian Government for that one. They dropped import tarrifs for Holden, making it cheaper to import a motor, than manufacture their own. Ford also had the same benefit. Where do you think the BOSS and Coyote came from?

If you want to get technical, our domestic Fords carry the same Blue Oval Ford emblem us the US models. Does that mean Ford Australia failed?

Yeah we get it that Chev badges don't really belong on Holdens as such. But the trend goes back to a time before alot of members here were even born. Can we just get over it and move on?
Yep, exactly. Lots of us "of a certain age" (OK, 46 years old) remember this sort of thing being perfectly normal. In fact, the early Monaros with either a 327 or 350 in the from the factory had a chrome badge on the guard that had the engine size and crossed flags above it, one with the Chev bowtie, and the other a checkered flag. As you said, it was completely normal to have a bowtie on, say, a Monaro or Kingswood or Statesman that either came from the factory with a Chev V8, or which had one fitted afterwoods by the owner. I can't remember anyone making fun of someone for having one on thier car.
The "Chev in a Ford" hotrod craze was (and still is amongst old school rods) pretty much standard...chev V8's had a reputation for being pretty hot motors and revvy, Ford's had a rep for being torquers. So people usually chose a Chev smallblock for thier hotrod.

I agree on Commodores it's a bit of a ****...everyone knows that they have Chev motors now...what's the point of putting a badge on it? When we owned a VS Berlina with the Ecotec V6, I really really wanted to have a go at Chev badge guys by putting on a Buick badge...the original VN Commodore V6 was straight from a front wheel drive Buick...that's why the injection throttle body is way down the back of the motor instead of, as with the Ecotec, halfway along the plenum chamber in a more sensible position.

The Porsche there might be reasonably exotic, but it's just a car...Boxters and 911's have a rep for being one of the few supercars that's perfectly useable as an everyday vehicle, not something that is fragile and fiddly and needs to be coddled and serviced every 1000km.

I would agree that its a strange number plate to pay good dollars to have on your car, but I wouldnt call it a fail.
A VE SSV is certainly not rubbish, especially considering that Ford Australia currently dont even market a V8 Falcon of any kind.

For me the AFM badge is the fail

Average auto, 10kW less and barely any (even no?) better on fuel.

There's a red one in Rockhampton, Queensland. Often parked at a Woolies supermarket parking lot on the north side. Amazingly rare car...shame it's not an "amazing car" to go along with the "rare" part though...

Accelerator pedal alright.

Related story: I was 18, sitting in the drive-in with the girlfriend in my '72 Valiant Charger which had a heavily worked 265 4bbl hemi and four speed. I was flicking my foot on the gas pedal, and the missus said "Stop doing that or you'll break it!", and as I scoffed, sure enough, it cracked off at the weld on the bracket, leaving only the top bit with the cable hooked into it...the "floating" accelerator pedal and rod coming down from the braket just fell on the floor! I didn't know what to do, but luckily I had a spare accelerator cable in the boot from a recent repair, and so I hooked the knob on the end of the old cable into the bracket and voila, a hand throttle.

...a 300hp, four speed hand-throttle car...

Wasn't that a fun drive home...

my valiants accelerator cable used to melt on the extractors, and would not return from wot, so you had to reach under the floored pedal with your toe and lift it up, almost as much fun as the bonnet randomly popping up... but damn it was a great car, and **** me it went hard, over a hundred meters it'd easily have the g6e i have now on the street, but then the g6e would fly by, but by then your well over the limit..

Yes, ugly...and amazingly fitted with the pushrod 1.6 liter "Kent" Ford engine, the same as was in early Escorts and some Cortinas.

That said, in England you can still get an awful lot of speed equipment for the good ole' 1.6 Kent engine...
