The reason i ask is today i test drove the new swift sport. I must say it feels comfortable, nice engine tone etc. and dare i say it, apart from slighty stiffer suspension and slighty better clutch feel (well i think so).... it feels exactly the same as the fiesta, if not a bit more sluggish around lower RPM's. Im actually trying to see what the difference is in the hardware of each. But lets put it this way, unless the price of the newie is dropped a bit, fiesta all the way.

Compression ratio that is quoted by the car makers is static compression ratio. Its the amount that the air inside the cylinder will be compressed by. In the Fiesta each cylinder has a capacity of 400cc and a compression ratio of 11.0:1 so the air will be squashed into the space of ~36cc. So you should be getting a pressure of 11bar in the cylinder.
The higher the compression ratio the more efficient the engine will be.

you'll also need to run a higher octane fuel, as with more compression, the higher likelyhood of detonation.
