Hey now, hey now.... Ther is a clear opportunity here for the elders of the tribe to demand privelege, pride and place on AFF. I suggest a veteran's AFF Lifetime Achievement medal to all of us over 45's! And a discount scheme similar to a Senior's Card. Also recommendation to Ford Australia to commence an immediate feasibility study into the viability of developing a hybrid Ford twin-cam gopher.

The big question here fellas is...how many of you can retire at 55(as I did) and live comfortably.

Now just to add to the confusion my pension goes up twice a year with CPI.....how many of you can get that out of your super scheme.

Not trying to be a showoff its just that I see what my kids have got to do in order to have acomfortable retirement...which is a hell of a lot more than me.

So I guess the question is how many of you are actually in retirement planning mode...as now days it should start from when you get your first job.

The future only gets more expensive from what I understand the average retiree in 30yrs time will need to invest at least $1.2m in order to live comfortably.

I was.

I actually retired at 50 and got bored real quick. I decided to take on a little work and have the best of both worlds.

Now at 55 I'm busier than I was when I "retired" but have a better understanding of what makes me tick

It depends on whether you want to live ... or just survive. You need at least $1m invested to live comfortably today!

If you are of a conservative nature and want to protect your investments in a "no risk" portfolio, then your $1m will earn around 10% in today's environment which is $100,000 per annum. Take out tax, overseas trips, new cars (F6) etc., and your $100K is covered.

I would suggest you would need a hell of a lot more than $1.2m in 30 years time.
