Default Not all insurance company's are the same.

Right here goes. Most of you on here will no that i wrote of the XC late last year. What most of you don't no is the insurance company i was with really made it a lot harder than it should have been. Now the company i was with was VIGIL , i had been with them for more than two years and in that time had never had a claim (I was originally with Shannon's More on that later) The accident happened on that 19th of November and it was settled on the 13-02.2006 now it had taken them eight and a half weeks from start to Finnish. Not in all that time did I ever have any of my phone calls returned or any of my e-mails for that matter. The whole thing was a joke. Now as for Shannon's i should never had left them in the first place. I changed over to the other thought loyalty to a friend, and didn't it came back to bite me in the A.R.S.E big time. I have put this up here to see if any of you have had the same sort of treatment for you insurance company. Of course there is more to thew whole matter than what i have put up here, so if you see me around the traps just ask me and i will give you the whole sorted story. Bj

Not all insurance companys are supposed to be the same!

I mate of mine had the same problem with this company. I perfectly worded letter fixed his hassles.

So far Ive not made a claim in Australia so I cant really comment objectively but time and time again, Shannons seem to be the only fairly reliable insurance company for such vehicles and I will be using them for sure.

None are going to be perfect- they love collecting revenue but dislike paying it out.

However, you are paying them for a service and a pain in the rear it it might be, show records with dates of your emails and calls (easy to find) and find someone senior to send them too.

I am in the middle of a similar lack of replies from another company in the UK and they are just about to feel my scribed wrath as someone mailed me an extremely inappropriate letter from said company :jab:

Get on to them immediately and even though you are going to leave them, dont tell them but do threaten this action- sometimes it ensures a better response, sometimes not.

they would not pay my clam because i had a speeding fine in 3 years with them
and i forgot to tell them
big deal 10ks over on the highway over taking a caravan doing 70 on the highway in 110km zone

I made a claim with shannons, couldn't have been easier, I didn't even give them any details bout the accident just that it was my fault and they took it up with the other party and fixed it up straight away, too easy, now AAMI is another story, sure they're premiums are cheap, but it's like you need a letter from both sets of grandparents to make a claim

You breached the policy terms not them. So you were the reason they couldn't pay you. Duty of disclosure is a policy condition

CGU insurance = Ridiculous. Their assessors will try anything to save money, including ignoring safety issues like damaged seat belts.

Our business & vehicles are insured with them, been with them 10 years, made three claims (none our fault) and everytime was a nightmare.

So the three claims were their three chances, the last time I repeatedly asked for documentation to make a formal complaint; they wormed their way out by transfering me to different departments. So I sent a detailed email and notified them I was dripping them when it was renewal time; never heard back from them.

No problems with GIO if you have all the correct info. A phone call claim no all fixed in under a week.

So the whole thing was settled on Feb 13th, John? And it's taken you fourteen days to calm down enough to word your post as you have here. I didn't expect it to be quite so subtle.

I've still gotta get round and check out this XR of yours. Everytime I've thought of it I've either already had a drink or was in the middle of something else.

Oh My God

Time and Time I see people complain about insurance company's

Then time and Time again you see people try to get the cheapest possible policy out there.

Now in this day and age you would think people would know better that the CHEAPEST POLICY is not the BEST POLICY.

Stop being tight when it comes to paying insurance as in the end you pay for what you get.

And with regards to write off's - the main reason that there is a delay in getting the pay out is due to all the process's insurers have to go through to make sure the clam is not fraudulant due to all the people that have made fraudulant claims previously

And with regards to Shannons I would reccomend anyone to insure with them.
Over the years they have grown to be one of he biggest and the best insurer's for classic, modified and what ever other car you want to throw there way - now they are doing motor bikes - thats only got to be a good thing.

Vigil Insurance is an underwriting agency for OAMPS, which itself is a brokerage company.... Vigil is their specialist motor vehicle underwriter. Similar to the relationship between just cars and AAMI - except OAMPS is not an insurance company - they are merely brokers.

The licensed insurance company actually providing the insurance is Australian International Insurance Ltd. This is evidenced by their product disclosure statement.

So you're dealing with Vigil who are dealing with OAMPS who are dealing with AII ltd.... it's no wonder the gears are turning slowly.

Notty - LTDHO has already pointed out why the claim was not paid. If i were a shareholder of that company i wouldnt want the claim to be paid either. Fairness is a two way street.

If there's a reason why they shouldnt pay a claim... why would they?

Insurance is an art and an art worth your learning. Good luck to those trying to resolve issues at the moment.

I am having a problem with my insurance at the moment. I am also one of those freaks who reads his entire insurance policy document everytime I change insurer. I am very aware of what my rights are with insurance companies.

I dropped my car off to get four new tyres. I go back to the tyre joint five hours later to collect my car. The manager of the tyre joint is very friendly goes through all the coupons that I get for buying my tyres through them and all the othe rrubbish. Just about to leave and he says:

Oh, by the way, there was some damage done to your car..."

You know how tyre joints have those stacks of tyres with a mag wheel displyed on them? Welll my car was parked next to one of them and a three year old pushed the stack of tyres and the mag wheel fell on the bonnet, denting that and the front qtr panel as well as scratching the bumper cover. The manager just gives me the name and phone number (no address, proof of ID, anything) of the mother of the child and says she'll pay for it. The damage value is approximately $1,000.

I didn't say anything. It was too tempting to do my nut, but I didn't. I thought, I would let my insurance company sort it out. I could nominate who was at fault (the tyre joint by the way - they had my car, it was on their property and it was their mag wheel. If they want to pursue the mother, so be it) so therefore wouldn't have to pay an excess. I even got home and rang the insurance company who told me that I wouldn't have to pay the excess, nor would it affect my rating. I obtained the ladies name that I spoke to as well.

Well, two and a half months on, were at stalemate. My insurance company is saying that I have to pay an excess because niether the tyre joint or the mother will admit liabilty. Why the hell would they? It's the first and golden rule when dealing with insurance companies, never admit liability. Just because someone doesn't admit guilt does not make them innocent. Anyway, clearly the real issue is going to be who wears the cost. The repairs are only $1,000, my excess is $500. They aren't going to sue anyone to recover $1,000 so they are just trying to get half of it back from me. I've sought out a solicitor, and I'm right. The last communication was a week ago when I sent them a pointed letter outlining the conditions of the policy and whey they aren't doing their bit. Now its the waiting game.

Im with shannons, all smooth sailing at the moment.

Was with NRMA...
If i were to say what i think about them it would be all NNNN, NNNNNN, NNNNN, NNNNNN and NNNN

:

I had my Laser insured with NRMA and had an at fault accident.
Should have been and easy transition.
Happened a week before chrissy 2004, they hadnt processed the claim till the middle of January, car went into the shop first week in Feb and i didnt get it back until the first week in May.

Here's why...
They have this photo system now where the smash repairer takes photos of the damage, number plate and complience plates. Then that is emailed to NRMA's office where they then assess it from their office.
The repairer/Workshop then books in your car.

Anyway once i dropped it off, they began work and whilst it was happening an assessor came out to the workshop and looked over the car, he deemed my wheels as too wide and ordered the half finished job to halt.
All that had to be done was to paint and put it together, a days work.

When i bought the car it was running crappy re-treads on 14X6's, so i got some different wheels off a guy a work. Some 15x6 mags off his GTi Swift.
NRMA claimed they were infact 15X6.5 which is not covered by thier policy.
So i then had a wheel removed too it to a wheel and tyre place and photographed the width of the wheel rim(tyre removed) and emailed the pictures to them.

Also i advised them i had only put these wheels on the week before the car went to the workshop, it in no way effected the claim on the accident as i did not own the wheels at the time of the accident, even had a reciept to prove this.

They argreed to authorise continuation of work, on the agreement i got the old wheels returned onto the car or they would cancel my insurance as soon as the work was finished.

It took them another 2weeks to get the ball rolling again on the repair at which point the workshop are breathing down my neck to pay thousands for the unfinished job.
Within the final two weeks i rang NRMA every second day to see if they had notified the repairer to continue work, the repairer kept saying that had no authorisation from NRMA to continue work.

It came to the point where i had NRMA on one phone and the repairer on my mobile and making them call the repairer while i was on the phone to them.
3days later i get my car back

NRMA are ИИИИing slack ИИИИs and i wouldnt ИИИИing go back to the ИИИИs.


Shannons, i am pleased with their service.
They even allow a whole half inch and more of width in wheels.

Well NRMA have gone done the gurgler with regard to its its new policy on how it handles repairs putting it on a website and letting business bid the lowest for the work.

My rant.
Was travelling under the speed limit on a mild hill and was approaching a red light camera. The weather was raining. I was in the left lane a blue honda accord euro in the middle lane (of three lanes). We go through the intersection and the honda puts its indicator on. I am next to the car and slow down. He slows and starts moving into my lane, I brake hard, he hits me, while I was honking the horn and flashing my lights.

He hits me. I spin. Hit the gutter at about 80km/h burst 2 tyres, dint 2 rims, through the suspension out. Brake a disk. Threw the caliper on the ground. Pulled the front bumber under the car. On the side of an embakement, about 1.5m away from a power pole I stop. The car starts to slide sideways. I didn't want to damage the side, I knew the front was stuffed so release the handbrake and rolled into the ditch.

The honda spins also and then stops. The driver gets out of his car and comes over to y car. I get out of my car stumble around. He sees me get out of my car and runs to his, starts his car and speeds off. I am left there in the rain.

NRMA says its my fault as there is noone they can sue and try and pin it on me. I had to pay the excess all they wont fix the damage. Car gets fixed. Then my renuel comes in and they want $2500 premium. I ring and complain. They tell me it was my fault. This carries on for 2.5 months. The reduced the at fualt accident part and lower my premium back to "normal". Despite having blue paint all down the side of my car. Only had it serviced that week. It was my fault unless I could come up with the 3rd party. The damage was in excess of $6,000. Stuff that for a joke. ИИИИ you NRMA.

Off Rant

In conclusion: NRMA sucks and wouldn't ИИИИ on them if they were on fire, or touch them with a 10 foot pole.

I am with Vigil insurance now and haven't made a claim yet.

This case was a straight-up, no bullИИИИ, plain as day case. Vigil ИИИИed John around for as long as they could and made no effort to treat him with any respect.

Fraudulant claim? The proof lay in the diff. This wasn't some "break a window, push it into a creek" thing.

I'm just glad to hear it all went well, John.

: DIRECT DIAL INSURANCE 10 YEARS AGO THEY INSURE GOOD DRIVERS ONLY AND SEND YOU A PRIVELI DGED letter when you meet criteria and offer cheap insurance . so i left the nrma with my then XF FALCON . and insured for third party fire and theft . a year or 2 later the xf got stolen . i reported it to police and insurance company .
i got the car back the next day . damaged as it had been in a ram rade . cops just told me to go and get it it was on the side of the road . now the car had stolen goods in it and glass in the boot. i took the stolen goods to the cop station and told them the car mustve been in a ram rade . thanks they say we never realised . i then go home police at home waiting for me . ( highway patrol .MR ****** YOU WERE CHASED BY THE POLICE at high speed last night and got away . : yeah right in my xf . had to prove the car was stolen (long =story )now assessor comes out says take to 3 panel shops get quotes . 1 st shop . write off, 2nd shop name the price we fix and pay you the differance insurance company pays everyone happy . 3rd shop . needs new boot floor structural damage $2700.
the tow bar was bent downwards from impact through shopfront. the boot floorpan was creased. i took the car to work lifted the back of car by tow bar slung to hoist . bit of 4x2 and one good hit with sledge hammer crease pops out . great . $5 tin of white paint . drive to wrecking yard buy 2nd hand blinker $45 fit . drive to inspection workshop get report saying car in good condition pink slip $40. take back to assessor . who writes up letter car repaired roadworthy and in good condition . owner repaired at own cost . done
NEXT YEAR INSURANCE RENEWAL REFUSED BECAUSE YOUR CAR WAS STOLEN WHICH MEANS YOU ARE NOT A GOOD DRIVER ANYMORE AND CANNOT BE INSURED WITH US.

ME RING AND tell them no claim was made . they send out ammendmant that since no claim was made and it cost them nothing then i can have the privelige of being insured with them agian ME SAY : :sm_headba
AND REINSURE WITH NRMA. AND I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH NRMA TOO but generally after proving how incompetant thier administration skills are they come to the party .
50% of the other insurers wont touch me . i think its because i have an fpv and most companies think that is a6 wheel drive deisal solarpowered concept japanese car of some sort. others wont insure a car with performance stripes. my fookin 2 cents worth .

I have had one @ fault accident with RACV and they were excellent, also one no fault accident with RACV and again they were fantastic. I am now insured with AAMI (just car) and I had to make a claim after a tree fell on my car and they were also great. My only complaint with them would have been how long it took for an assessor to come out and look at my car but it was over the xmas period so I forgave them. The only reason I left RACV was they were double the amount to insure the same car. I even said to the sales person I would pay a premium to stay with RA but double was excessive.

No problems with NRMA at all ... all claims processed quickly and efficiently .. no issues at all.

Even though a lot of people hate them ... and I was thinking at one point of going elsewhere ... they have treated me well ... so I am going to stick with them until my mods get too much for their liking.

NRMA are a joke.
I have fleet insurance with 8 company cars and we had a AustPost van put a small dent in the passengers door. It was about $400 damage and took 4 weeks to fix because fo the stupid Photo system.
I asked NRMA about who can fix it, they gave me a list of "approved" repairers, that seem to hate NRMA, so I asked about my own nominated repairer, they said because I was fleet I could, but my mate who owns a panel shop said no way, and I went to 2 other shops and no one would touch them.
I will be looking for a new insurance company this year as I do not like the games NRMA are playing

I have a problem with Shannons, They want insure me at all they said it was to much of a risk to insure my car and this came from a guy i spoke to at the All Ford Day at Geeelong. This is how the conversaion went

ME: I would like a quote on insurence on a 2000 AU XR 8
Sales Guy: Where do u live?
ME: Cranbourne
Sales Guy: R u a member of a club?
ME: NO
Sales Guy: Have u had a speeding ticket in the last 5 years?
Me: Yes 12 months ago for 6 months
Sales Guy: Do u drive it daily?
ME: Yes
Sales Guy: Dose the car garaged at night?
ME: No i work shift work it gets left in an off road car park with video sevailence
Sales Guy: So do u put it in the garge at home?
ME:No it gets locked up in the driveway
Sales Guy: Can it be seen from the street?
ME: Yes
Sales Guys: Were sorry but thats classed as High risk for us try Just Car or AAMI

High Risk my bum all i want is a company who want cost the earth and someone who will let me insure it for what i owe on it(20000) is that to hard to ask for.

I had major hassles last year with Suncorp after an accident so changed to RACQ..... So far so good.... no accidents so dont know if they are going to be any better or not..
But since having the car insured with them and having the Ultra Plus (or whatever its called)... there is a slight discount!!!!
Moving from the 'nice' area I was at to the slightly rougher area my insurance has actually gone down by almost $100 year..... go figure (maybe they dont steal Fords as much up this way) :

Was travelling under the speed limit on a mild hill and was approaching a red light camera. The weather was raining. The honda spins also and then stops. The driver gets out of his car and comes over to y car. I get out of my car stumble around. He sees me get out of my car and runs to his, starts his car and speeds off. I am left there in the rain.

NRMA says its my fault as there is noone they can sue and try and pin it on me. I had to pay the excess all they wont fix the damage. Car gets fixed. Then my renuel comes in and they want $2500 premium. I ring and complain. They tell me it was my fault. This carries on for 2.5 months. The reduced the at fualt accident part and lower my premium back to "normal". Despite having blue paint all down the side of my car. Only had it serviced that week. It was my fault unless I could come up with the 3rd party. The damage was in excess of $6,000. Stuff that for a joke. ИИИИ you NRMA.

Off Rant

In conclusion: NRMA sucks and wouldn't ИИИИ on them if they were on fire, or touch them with a 10 foot pole.

I am with Vigil insurance now and haven't made a claim yet.


That would have happened with ANY insurer.
It WAS an "at fault" claim if you are unable to identify the third party at fault. And the following renewal you should rightly have dropped a rating.

What you need to get your head around is that the term "at fault" or "not at fault" is simply an insurace term. A stolen car is an "at fault claim" just as hitting a kangaroo. The insurance company cannot recover from the thief or skippy therefore you pay your excess and drop a rating. Standard practice no matter who you are insured with unless you have rating protection, either way you still need to pay your excess.

The repairers are upset because they no longer have the right to charge what they like for a repair and must compete with other repairers.
The repairers are holding NRMA to ransom with thier tactics. The sooner those repairers go broke the sooner we can all enjoy "fair and reasonable premiums"

I am still in the middle of a dispute with my insurance company. September last year, my dad had my car and was driving in the city. Anyway the lady infront of him pulled over to the side and slowdown to a point where she was barely moving. So my dad went to overtake her and as he did, she turned into him. So on the left hand side now, my car has all these marks on it, and somehow it is our fault, even though my insurance company did say she cause the accident by turning into my car. We have not contacted them since early December and they have not sent us a letter or called us up.

This is after 32years of loyal service from my dad, who has only ever made one claim previously in 1996. We have now become to them bullИИИИ artists.

Once I get off my P-plates in December I will be moving camps. This insurance company is a joke and the way way they do there business. I have never come across anyone being as scum as these people.
