what a fantastic beasty.......12" across.....long may it live.......had one half his size sitting on my hand, he came out of our ducted air-con and sat on my hand when I opened up the pads to service the unit.
never been a big fan of spiders but I'm not frightened of them, the ones I find inside get put out but apart from that they are left alone.

Trying to find the local newspaper clipping I posted to facebook about a year ago. Local farmer was chopping wood and found a huntsman that measured 55cm. I dont think they're meant to grow that big! I saw one on my tractor shed last night that would come close to 12", biggest ive personally seen. They're everywhere right now.

I remember watching a doco on these spiders years ago, and the tribesman whom hunt and eat them...
They had a special hunting technique for avoiding the stinging hairs the spider flicks at you as a defense mechanism.

Would love to keep one as a pet. I used to have a huntsman in a fish tank as a pet. Would drop in a cockroach or lizard every now and again to feed it.
Once I dropped a roach in there and they lived together for a month before it ate it would you believe! The kids at school were studying a science unit called 'Mini Beasts' and I mentioned my pet. They said bring it in, so I did. Caused quite a fuss... They thought I was kidding.

About 20 odd years ago when I was at home with my two young girls when we had a visitor (8 legged type) in the lounge room. What got me was it's size and colour - 25cm diameter foot spread and bright orange.
So long as I see the spider before it sees me I am ok and will try to put them outside. Of course if they don't want to go then sorry Spidey, you had your chance. Anyway, I was watching it and when it started to walk across the floor I placed a 2 litre empty ice-cream container on it. I then proceeded to go and get a piece of paper to slide under it to take Spidey outside. I get back with the piece of paper to find the ice-cream container had gone. I then noticed it slowly making it's way toward the kitchen. I then placed a large dictionary on top of it and it stopped moving. I called the local Ranger and told them what was happening. they laughed and just said pick it up and put it outside. i told him to get stuffed. He came around about 20 minutes later still laughing, until I took the dictionary off the container and 10 seconds later the container started moving. He lifted the container and said its just a Huntsman. He started to leave then turned and asked could he take the spider with him, I reluctantly agreed. I heard from him a week later and it seems that it may have been a new as yet unknown breed. Sort of Huntsman meets Mouse Spider. Body of mouse spider and legs of a huntsman. Cheers Vincenzo

I've heard a couple of Katy Perry's songs and their not bad (like her figure
 ) but I didn't realise that she's not the normal type of Girly Girl.In the making of the Music Video 'Roar' she had 3 live Tarantulas crawling on her !

I used to have the regular redback spiders hanging around the west side of my house/s.
Don't see them much anymore. I think the Asian gecko has sorted them out. I've had the odd cockroach crawl into my house every 3 months or so. Haven't had a pest controller here for over 10 years. Those gecko's eat anything - I'm glad to have them about. Cheers! Edit: Gas, Katy Perry is nice - tarantulas are not! Got a fetish you want to share?

I always have big huntsman around the yard and carport...but a little while ago I was fixing the wooden fence and saw a much chunkier version of a huntsman, its abdomen was much bigger, similar colour though greyish black. Maybe I never noticed the huntsmans eyes before but this one had big eyes. And it crawled off, not sped off like huntsmans normally do.

It always amazes me how fast spiders can move, especially huntsmen.
I struggle to move fast with two legs let alone trying to move 8 in sync lol. |

We had a big huntsman in the last place and watching it run across the carpet was freaky, it was like it wasn't actually touching the ground. Steel cap boot made sure it was touching the ground though, permanently.
I get in a cold sweat just seeing an average sized spider, big fast ones scare the carp out of me.
