Good month for the Focus not so good for Falcon, Camry and Aurion sales would be worrying Toyota.
How long before Mazda and Hyundai are routinely 2nd and 3rd in sales.

January is always a bad Month for local product. Due to fleets and the factory being closed.

Looks like the 2.9% worked for Focus. Wheres Kuga?

Can't say as that Falcon number is a huge shock, the huge run from November and December must come at a cost, how long was the plant closed for in January?

That Mazda 3 number is huge, in today's terms at least. There's daylight between it and the Corolla.

Jesus, Falcon 461. Correct me if I am wrong, but is that it's lowest monthly sales ever?

I feel for Ford, having to endure another 8-9 months of appalling sales.

If you want to buy one of the last Falcons I think you should head down to the dealer sooner rather than later.

Ouch, Falcon sales have bombed, that has to be the lowest ever.
How long was Ford closed and how long was Holden closed?
Hmmm will have to wait till March figures but if they're similar to these I'd say Ford is pulling up stumps before 2016.

I'm led to believe they have a problem with cutting and running early due to conditions that went along with the co-investment agreement with the government. Penalties in supplier contracts could be an issue as well.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but if it was that bad (and they have already flagged they are going to take a huge burn this FY), then you'd think they would have wound it all up already?

Well done to Ford on Focus. Good month, they now need to double this output to match Mazda 3 and Corolla to try and get Ford back in the top 3. I don't believe Holden will be any real threat once Commodore has left our shores.

Ok fair enough then, just like i thought better off waiting until March figures to have a better look at the figures.
Thanks for the explanation.

its quite a clever move by ford to cut of falcon and start again entirely with new cars. It needed to happen to drop the negative image stupid people in australia have of ford. And will be a resounding success in years to come.

Jeeez, if my calculations are close, Australians bought around 6700 locally made cars last month, which is roughly 8% of the 82300 cars bought last month. At these rates, the local manufacturers might want to give the workers february off as well.

It appears the new Mazda 3 is another winner for them. I went down to have a look at them yesterday as a invite was sent out to my wife for the showing and there were a lot of people there and the sales personal were signing up a fair few buyers, most of them were females with their male partners. Looks a good car and I can see why they appeal to the buyers that they target.

Mazda 3 sales would be inflated by run-out stock, dealers registrations for demo's on the new model as well as press fleet demos for the launch of the new model.

You say that, like its the only choice you have. Mazda themselvels have said they expect that model to make up 3% of sales.

Camry 1007
Aurion 145

Toyotas locally made product struggling too. Aurion is seriously unpopular/ugly. Nice drivetrain but unfortunately not enough.

Mate bought a base runout Mazda3 on the weekend -- they are adververtised 'from $19,990". The dealer was more than hapyy to drop just over a grand off that price for an on the spot purchase.

Holden came third on the back of a strong performance by its VF Commodore which, despite the absence of business fleet buyers in the market, hit its straps with 2364 sales for the month.

This was a 42 per cent improvement on the same month last year, and came despite wide-spread media coverage of Holden’s decision to quit local manufacturing.

Holden’s other locally produced car, the Cruze, was not so fortunate, slipping 14.8 per cent to 1395 sales.

Ford’s Aussie Falcon slumped to a new low, attracting only 461 buyers in January – a worse performance than the previous worst month for the car, in August last year, when Ford delivered just 573 Falcons.

The related Ford Territory also hit a pothole, with sales down 41.3 per cent to just 681 units.

Overall Ford sales declined 11.9 per cent to 6804 vehicles for fifth place, behind hard-charging Korean importer Hyundai (7152 vehicles, up 4.9 per cent).
