Angry Well I've hit a rock

If this is posted in the wrong area can the mods please move it.

Anyway, Driving home on thursday night i drove around a pretty big large pothole on leakes rd in laverton and little did i know on the line i chose was a rather large rock. it went under the car via the front right wheel and exited via the drivers rear and cut a nasty path of destruction on it's way through. it was not a good feeling i can assure you of that, To say i'm gutted is an understatement, Here's some pics:

The car in question:

From side on:

From the front of the car looking back:

I'm not sure if there's any other damage other than that, i haven't had a chance to get it up on a hoist for a proper inspection but the drivers seat is stuck in place now. It's booked in for an inspection by the insurance company on wednesday morning so who knows how long i'll be without it.

It also turned out when i asked my boss for some time off to take it for assessment that his grandson hit the same bloody thing tearing the sump out of his car a little while before i got there. I'm sure glad it was moved off the road.

Owch....

Not a local, but are there houses either side of the road where the incident happened? May be worth knocking on the door and asking if they knew it was there and if they reported it.

Be creative on how you ask. If you go for the jugular from hello they may not want to get involved with your problems.

Unfortunetly no houses, there's a caravan park and mcdonalds on one side and a pub on the other so getting any info is near impossible. It was very lucky for the guy behind me though because it came firing out the back at a great rate of knots just to the right of him.

Good chance it will be, one because it punctured the floorpan and teo because its damages the structural integrity of the mounting points for the drivers seat- big issue if it ever in another crash.

Everything else appears to be fine but as i said i haven't had a chance to get it on a hoist for a better look so i can't be certain. There's no damage to any of the bodywork or panels though so to look at it you wouldn't know. It drives fine which makes it all that more annoying.

dave351cid, entire o/s floorpan, rail to be repaired/replaced plus what we cannot see. Suspension? Driver seat jammed? Probably car bench to straighten the mess out plus repairs/replacement parts not been found to date. T'would be pushing it I think. Would, of course, depend on the insurer.

I see now the thread title suggests you hit an actual rock, instead of metaphorically. My condolences.

Unfortunetly i avoided the pothole and the rock was on the other side of it. It appeared it had fallen off a vehicle as it did not appear to be part of the road.

This would be hard to prove, councils and Vic roads are hard to get money out of. While its never good to have vehicle damage due to bad roads, if councils and roads corps had to payout for all vehicles damaged by road issues, our insurances, regos and council rates would go through the roof.
I will add that my wifes car was severly damaged due to a concrete block on a major hwy during peak hr. Two busted wheels and under vehicle damage, payed the insurance excess and got if fixed. $6K damage.
