Cool, love the SS (they were just a Belmont tricked up) and Big W sold cars, who'd have thought. (yes I know it isn't really Big W).

Yep .. I've always thought my VY1 SV8 (Exec with a V8) was a lot closer to the original SS theory than anything which followed. Maybe I should pull the armrests and radio out to complete the homage? ;)

Cool ads too. I like the Charger one; a product of it's time ..

Yeah .. interesting adds. Reminded me how cheap todays cars are in terms of wages. Hz Premier .. aproximately 55 weeks wages. XR6 today is around 27 weeks wages.

I like going through 90s newspapers and looking at the prices of used cars back then. So many great 60s and 70s Aussie cars at dirt cheap prices, compared to today. Of course they were more common and less desired in those days, but when you see things like genuine XB GTs for only $5000 (yes, I remember seeing one advertised for that much in a mid-late 90s advert) it makes you feel like you were born too late!

I've got some old newspapers from the 1970's packed away (pages from them that were put in the bottom of cupboard drawers) which have car adverts on them from Bundaberg dealerships. When I unpack the stuff from Bundaberg after we shift stuff down to the house we are going to buy in Rocky, I'll dig them out and scan them in. Some rediculous prices in there for stuff that is worth a fortune now.

Personally, when I was 17 I bought a VH Valiant Charger, worked 265 hemi and four speed with ROH jelly-bean mags in excellent condition, for $1600 from the Holden dealers second hand lot. Mind you, that was in 1982, and that Charger was only a ten year old car at the time...so it's all relative I suppose.

How's this for an old car advert...

Now this is what I call old school, Sydney Morning Herald 1935. I also like the court cases section beside it too.

Man wish I took a photo of the newspaper I found not too long ago... Almost seems far fetched but I was under Graham Ross' (garden expert on better homes and gardens) house a little while back and found an old newspaper from late 70s showing the latest falcons going for around $3k-5k from memory. Blew my mind.
Also found some really old tooheys new cans and a few dead possums lol

Oh lord don't remind me of that! Why I bought a car without fast glass I'll never know

The VK (first car) was the only exception to that rule... mainly because I'd never used fast glass before

If I were around back in the day, I'd go for the tank Fairlane for sure. It looks as if Ford had a wider offering than Holden did with their US model, the Chevrolet of that year only came in one body style and in 6-cylinder only according to a magazine from the '90s.

Cool Re: Some old newspaper adverts for cars.

Worst mistake of my life
bought an HK GTS 327Monaro back in 1975 in a car yard for $1750 full price
had it a couple of years and had kids so traded it on a Valiant wagon
I kick myself every day
