Default Insurance Company that supports hooning???

Seems "Just cars" insurance is running a comp where the winner gets a trip to Japan to learn how to drift

not sure where the hooning element is; to me it is just another form of motorsport.

I cant see what it has to do with hooning, some may argue is it motorsport either way its motoring skill.
I have read its the fastest growing motorsport with the young and Australia has a national series.
Events held in a controlled environment with safety standards.

Not a clever thread title IMHO.
We need to differentiate between an organised Motorsport activity and "street racing" or hooning.

How do you know drifting is Hooning?

The last I heard, the work 'HOON', hadn't been defined yet.

Unless they're teaching them how to drift on suburban streets with traffic on them, I don't quite understand the reference to hooning..?

Topic tile is very misleading . might wanna rethink that one ? , putting drifting in the same basket as the as yet undefined `hoon laws` ?

According to my local council and the flyer I received the other day, the definition of a hoon is as follows:

* Dangerous driving including excessive speed
* Careless driving
* Failure to have proper control of a vehicle
* Causing the vehicle to make excessive smoke or noise
* Repeat driving whilst disqualified offences

Some who are not up to speed with the fact that DRIFTING is a Motorsport may see it as hooning. However, all drifting events that I know of - and they do hold them at Winton, have always been at a designated secure site where you need to follow track rules and behaviour. It actually takes a lot of skill to drift in a car...I enjoy watching it for that aspect alone. This type of motorsport is huge overseas!

For an insurance company to support this motorsport and help it grow and develop is a great thing in my opinion. Good on them!

Cheers
Col

The OP is just putting what 90% of the public think drifiting is.

Most people do not care if it is legal, illegal its all put into the hooning basket.

No point to this discussion.
Sanctioned motorsport events have nothing to do with hooning.
