Professionals use Wahl
I have a collection of them in the cupboard.
Depending on where you buy, what you need, what you get, a good clipper is $80 to $120. Trimmers $25 to $100.

Wahl's good gear is mostly marked as made in USA. They have some gear from China that I like too. Depends what you do with it.

The Shaver Shop stock Wahl as do most hairdresser supply stores (hairhouse warehouse or similar) - good gear, had my clipper 16 years now, replaced the foils twice and they have never let me down... I cut my hair every fortnight and I'm a blood nut so course thick hair...

Go for a Wahl. I have a cordless Wahl, which I'm not sure if you can get or not anymore, (wife is a hairdresser).

I would ring the professional salon suppliers, the places that supply to salons. Most of them are open to the public these days. And simply get yourself the best unit that ytour budget can allow.

I got a wahl from hairhouse warehouse about 3 years ago for $90 odd. Still running great. I oil it before and after every cut. When the blades do eventually dull, replacements are only $10 or so.

I hate my wahl clippers .
Im so sick of taking 10 minutes everytime i want to use them adjusting the blades so that it doesn't rip my hair out only to adjust them again halfway through because the blades moved again .

snappy how old are they?
Something is obviously wrong if you have to keep adjusting them.

Far out LOL by snappys post - I don't bother adjusting and nor oil them maybe once a year, yes I'm slack but they keep doing the job.
Wahl yes they are. Brother owned salons for years.

+1 for wahl here! Just used it actually. Would advise against the battery ones as I had one ( breville ) b4 the wahl and it only lasted a year or so

I've been shaving my head for 5 years now, used a Wahl for 4 of them. Absolutely awesome brand. I recently changed to a Panasonic cordless from Shaver Shop ($120) that sh*ts all over the Wahl though. The battery lasts for a good 90 mins and it uses the same charging plug as my electric shaver, so happy days!

FgNewbie - In all honesty I can't recall the model number. Pretty sure it had worn off after 4 years of weekly use. They were by no means a bad pair of clippers. Up until the point I replaced them they were the best I used. The Panasonic just take it that extra bit further though!

Good thread, I need to buy some new ones as my old K-mart sourced ones ($60 IIRC) just broke the plastic thingy that oscillates the blade. They lasted probably 4 yrs though. Cut mine, and my sons hair fairly regularly. Hair must be an inch long now, I feel like a hippy.

as i said im going to try wahl now.

previous falures: brawn, remington, panasonic, everlady.
they rattle till they tear them self apart, some do have slack adjusters that dont work.
they go dull too quick and tear the hair out, with one hours use.
or simply clog up, a quarter thew the job.

burnz - You sure you've got hair, and not some sort of artificial turf up there? =P

You won't be disappointed with Wahl thats for sure. But given that you bugger up so many pairs I wouldn't bother looking at a cordless set. Corded clippers by far are still the strongest you can get!

I've got a remington that I use to shave my head once or twice a week, so far it has lasted 18 years. The trick is to oil them and clean them out before and after use. Best $70 I have ever spent...
