Teflon Coating on new BA

Hey all,

Im am picking up my demo XR8 BA Black in a week, and I have been offered a teflon coating on the car. Apparently its best to get this as black fades??

Can any one shed some light on this a let me know if you got the teflon coat on your car.

as in teflon lie the stuff they use on cooking utensils??? hmmm i dont know but i have heard the black fades though

It sounds like the story by dealers to buy their value added pack. if you buy now, pay only $1,200 which is a huge 65% off, which is what you would pay if you bought these items seperatley. We can only offer you this price if you buy through us. etc etc etc. Always seems to come from the girl at the front counter who gives you the speil, after you have signed on the dotted line

My dealer tried it with me for both cars. As long as your prepared to put look after the car, wash it regularly and use the right products, the car will always look as good as the day you bought it.

this teflon one is $595.00 doesnt sound too bad stops bird from burning your paint.....

Gimmick.... save your money and just polish it with a decent polish..

What he said, it will be gone within a year and need polish applied anyway, put the $595 towards a Herrod stealth edit, much better value.

It's a con.
It's just a fancy name for there so called paint treatment, which is nothing more than wax.

Just wax your car once a month if parked in the sun, and every 3 months if garaged.

Yep! now that will be money well spent! at least you can see, feel and hear the result of the $$$!!
A good can of polish will cost you $40 and a few hours work and give you the same result as that expensive teflon gunk.

I agree, it's a way to get 595 out of someone for nothing. Show me a black car that has faded in the last 10 years! Mine is 13 years old and hasn't faded!

The only reason i endured the aftersales speel is the "after sales" chick at Ethridge was an absolute GLAM!!!

dont get sucked into buying there paint protection they sell it a an amoured guard for your paint but geuss what it aint

Lots of teflon added sealants running around. I have not tryed ming but heard it's pretty crap
Nothing will last for three to five years but the teflon sealants I have tryed, did stop water spots dead in their tracks
From my experience, I don't believe teflon does anything more than improve the lustre of the paint a tad and make it ultra slick
It's been stated by guys at autopia that teflon needs to be applied at 600 F to be able to stick to paint and that's coming from du pont directly

My suggestion is clay it, use a hand glaze by hand to enhance the depth and provide some wetness
Then seal the paint with an acrylic, super polymer or polymer sealant and then a coat or two of wax after 24 hours curing period

Then re apply the sealant after 4 to eight months or when necessary
ultra fine clay would be helpful in removing any environmental contaminants but not remove your precious sealers
polish only as needed

Teflon has to be 'baked' on.

Du Pont sued companies all over the world a few years back for using the trademarked 'teflon' name in their advertising.

Remember the days when everything sold in a shop, had the word 'turbo' all over it... same diff'.

ha ha... yeah, the one that normally struts past 5 times whilst your kept waiting for your salesman to "OK with the manager the bargain deal of a lifetime you're getting".

She makes no contact with you, no eye contact, you assume you're invisible to her or she's the office intranet (those papers she's always carrying).

Then she's told you're "just brought a new car" and hey presto... she can smile, talk and be charming... lol

And of course, the 21 year old salesman, has a story about his conquest of her...
