I haven't clicked on the link yet but is that the video of the 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air vs 2009 Malibu head-on? Because I've seen it enough as it is.

Bingo!

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

I'm cynical, my "conspirecy theory" is i reckon it's a "fake", ie a mocked up with alloy panels on the '59. George Barris made cars for the movies with aluminium panels for better accident effects in 50's and '60's so why not do it to make modern cars look safer so more people will buy them?

yes this has been done to death many times over, but to test the theory about whether old non-crumpling cars are safer, you can do an experiment. hold a sizeable cardboard box in front of you and run as fast as you can into a brick wall. now repeat the experiment with a similar sized wooden box to see which option will do more damage to you.
