Yeah more cross country though!! I've got an 05 Giant AC. I am thinking of changing the tyres to more street friendlies as it is doing on road than off.

I'm in Brissy

Hey i'll dig this thread up! I bought a new mountain bike the other day to get back into jumping and fitness.
http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqu...model=Hardrock Sport Disc
Already have come off once in 2 weeks doing a a set of rythyms near my joint, front wheel washed out and i fractured me wrist. It's been about three years since that last happened and i must say i felt like crying. Soon i'll put up some photos of myself and some other cats cutting loose on our bikes.

I used to ride heaps when I was at school, but once I finished school kinda lost track of the guys I used to ride with and so haven't ridden much for a while...we were into a bit of trials, XC and downhill, (Southbank and brisbane city provide a some interesting trials practice if you can avoid security guards!)

I went for a ride on monday through southbank and pulled ofa bit of a cool trick up near the flag courts at southbank, had some chick about 30 meters away yell out "woo hoo, that was awesome!" so I gave her a smile and tried something different...stacked it big time :S so embarrasing, but luckily she had looked away before I hit the deck lol.

Would love to hook up with some brissy people and go riding properly again!

Does anyone have or know of someone who has a repco sport firetrail 26 inch. They are at big w and have front and rear disc brakes. And good suspension. Would they be any good? They are for $300. Go to the bottom right of the page and you will see repco sport firetrail. Tell me what you guys think? http://www.bigw.com.au/Pages/DEPARTMENTS/Bikes.asp

I don't go MTB'ing but I like to ride trails and skate parks. I have a Haro TR2.0 but will need to go to the bike shop soon as it fell off the bike rack and it dragged along the ground for 20metres or so!!!

I used to be into racing MTBs, more so back in the UK. Started off in the National Points Series in Pro category, got sponsored, wasn't good enough, did the 24-hour races and singlespeed stuff... many happy memories. First MTB in 1989, several since then. Never really got into the North Shore thing (although I tried) and much prefer long distance XC/enduros.

I recently got back on my bike after about an 18 month layoff - had a ball, but I'm horribly unfit so hills were difficult. But pointing down singletrack, I was please to see I'd forgotten none of the skills.

Current rides are both rather sedate... custom built Roberts White Spider (Tange steel) hardtail with XT and XTR and some old retro Rock Shox Mag 21 forks... hey, I had the bike built in 1994, so it all makes sense! The bling bike is a Pastey; Reynolds 853 steel, Rock Shox Psylo SL, Hope wheels and discs, XT and XTR, Thomson... very light, very fast, and I might be about to fall in love with it all over again.

Don't buy a mountain bike without test riding it first. You'll need to know that it fits you well, that it rides the way you want it to and most importantly for a full suspension design, that it feels the way you want it to. They're not all the same, and have different spring rates, damping, pivot points and geometry angles.

And in the case of a full suspension bike, buy the best you can afford, and don't worry about the components (gears, bars, stems) too much - you can upgrade them cheaply as and when you want, whereas a frame and fork costs a LOT more.

If you really do want to buy one from an online retailer, test ride one from your local dealer first. Chances are they'd match the online price anyway, and you'll get far better service if you bought it in person. But even then, if you still want to buy online, test ride as many as you can first.
