Default escort purchase and upgrade?

Hi
Many years ago I purchased a 2 door 1972 (I think) Mk1 that I had great fun rallying. I purchased it with a 2ltr engine and box from a Cortina shoe-horned into it plus other mods like bigger wheels, probably bigger brakes etc. Trans tunnel etc has been modified to allow the box to fit. It has been sitting in my shed for the last 10 or more years with a body that is pretty much had it. I'm now looking for a first car for my son. I've found what looks like a stock 1973 1.3/1.6L 4 door Mk1 for sale and I think it would be a great project to recondition some of the bits from my old rally car to rebuid this standard escort with. Has anyone completed such a project and would you have any recommendations?

Try to get an Escort with an auto trans. These have bigger transmission tunnels so you can fit 5-speed boxes in them easily. The 2ltr engine will bolt straight in, no dramas. The standard brakes will work fine with a 2ltr if in good condition.
It's a pretty easy conversion, even the 2ltr EFI engines fit in without any major dramas.
I've got pics of my nephew's Mk1 Escort with 2ltr EFI we did a few years back if you're interested.
