I'd say it would be a video card or that the video might even be in the wrong format maybe......

Nah,
Probably missing the codecs. Download the xvid mp4 codec from http://download.divxmovies.com/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe

or try VLC media player

I had the same problem with my work computer, it needed the latest Windows Media Player to be downloaded and installed.

sgt doofey answered the question, your computer has no codecs to uncompress the movie and cant understand it at the moment, either VLC player which will play almost EVERYTHING, or download xvid (divx backwards) and you should be right to go

you dont need a video card and play off the HDD not the CDrom/DVDrom

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Co...k_download.htm

The K-lite standard or lite pack should meet your needs - contains multiple codecs

Download KLITE CODEC PACK

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

It has codecs for the different AVI formats, mp4, 3ivx, 3gp, rm, ram, wmv, mpeg, mpg etc, basically it's an all in one pack

Codecs x4

The links provided by pauljh74 and falsonsr are spot on. Install the K-Lite codec pack (containing all the common codecs), and try again.
