Not sure if this has been posted before, I did a couple of searches and came up with nothing.
The words of Advance Australia Fair to the tune of "Working Class Man", well performed by Adam Hills. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7imvZW5U0ss

Where did you get that? It was written by the keyboard player from 'Journey', recorded in LA and sung by a scottish born Aussie....where does the country bit kick in? I can just see Jimmy Barnes being the toast of Nashville. :hihi:

Yeah I have seen him perform that on a couple of occasions. Once at the comedy festival and then on Spicks and Specks (when Barnes was a panellist). Great version I reckon.

I would never show my pride for Australia by "singing" a Jimmy Barnes song.
There's singing, and there's shouting. Barnes shouts. No talent there. We should stick with Advance Australia Fair. Not my fault of most people don't know the words and what it actually means. |

It's a little hard to respond to this without lowering the IQ of the thread....though you managed to do that on your first post.

verse 2, 4 and 5 are really popular!!
Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in Nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare; In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, "Advance Australia fair!" When gallant Cook from Albion sail'd, To trace wide oceans o'er, True British courage bore him on, Till he landed on our shore. Then here he raised Old England's flag, The standard of the brave; With all her faults we love her still, "Brittannia rules the wave!" In joyful strains then let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" Beneath our radiant southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands; For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" While other nations of the globe Behold us from afar, We'll rise to high renown and shine Like our glorious southern star; From England, Scotia, Erin's Isle, Who come our lot to share, Let all combine with heart and hand To advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast, Or dare a foot to land, We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore To guard our native strand; Brittannia then shall surely know, Beyond wide ocean's roll, Her sons in fair Australia's land Still keep a British soul. In joyful strains the let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" |

What is wrong with "I am, you are, we are Australian" as an anthem? Lumpy

My recording career? Boy, have you missed the point. The beauty about music is that as a consumer, I have a right to critique. The fact remains that Jimmy Barnes has absolutely no singing ability. Many of the songs he is famous for have been written by other people and he butchers them. But that's my opinion. If you don't like it, then you're welcome to think I'm stupid. Actually, I probably am. But meh, I'll call myself "Special" for now. Advance Australia Fair sings about the relative freedom we enjoy, paid for our work (except if you work at KFC), a sparse land surrounded by water (with no water within it) etc. It's old fashioned, but I like it. |

Secondly, people would not sing it with pride. They'd sing it like a rock concert. I can see all those fools in Bay 13 sculling beer to show how they are Australian. As I said, Advance Australia Fair suits the purpose well. As before, it isn't the nations fault if people don't know the lyrics, or what they mean. |
