^^^ The dam opens automatically once there is 88m over the 100m mark (88m at the rate that is currently going in is less than5sec)

The gates can open from anytime between now and tonight its just a waiting game

Is it covered .... or have they closed it prior to it being consumed???
Is North Richmond blocked off yet ... or is that getting close?

Where on Nth Richmond bridge is that marker .... was that the one on the Richmond side.

Looks like the fences have been laid down as well.

This is on the Nth Richmond side.

they laid down the pedestrian rails when they closed it off, too many stupid on lookers, they were spilling on to the roadway.
I overheard a policeman saying that they made a decision when a parent was caught walking with their kid on the centre line of the road while it was still open to traffic....

A few more pics

Quite a crowd gathered....

I found this: http://www.hawkesburyhistory.org.au/...es/floods.html

Flood depths since 1799 till the last in 1992

Quote:

Flood types and effects

MINOR
From about 5.8 m Causes inconvenience, minor roads & low-level bridges affected.
MODERATE
From about 6.9m Overbank flow occurs with damage to low lying homes and farms. North Richmond Bridge closes at 8.4m and Windsor Bridge at 6.9m.
MAJOR
From about 12.2m Widespread inundation. Large areas flooded, towns & properties isolated & waters encroach. Extensive damage and hardship can occur.

Who'd have thought this would happen. Only 3 to 4 years ago most of NSW was declared a drought zone, now the place is flooding.

I'd love to hear Tim Flannery explaning the current situation based on his predictions of a few years ago.

Hope everyone is keeping safe.

I guess it's a case of better safe than sorry really.
I never realised that Nth Richmond bridge railling could be dropped down to prevent damage. Some one with a good idea for a change.

North Richmond and Windsor bridges open again

I dont know if its better safe than sorry or the fact that since 1992 there have been alot of changes in the SES etc and know one knows the local lay of the land

Going by the coments I read on the Gazette face book page people were expecting another tawoomba and that was never going to happen.

one person was saying gett all the spectators out of there its dangeus, we got evacuated for a reason (I have know idea what was going through her head)

another person posted this photo

and the masses wanted to chase after the parrents and photographer with torches and pitch forks

people need to relax

We could be in a bit of trouble around where I am lots of roads being cut off and a couple of towns (The Rock, Lockhart etc) pretty well under already. Hoping it dries out soon.

Well ... with last night's/this morning's downpour ... I wonder if this will affect the Hawkesbury catchment yet again.

S and SW NSW is touch and go as well going on all the news reports.

This morning was interesting on the road though ... I made sure i left 15 minutes earlier then normal this morning ... just to have an easier run in.
