Wow - I saw this thread and had to reply....
I sold my EBII S-XR6 in 2005 to a guy I know (mainly to fund my wedding) and the terms were that I get first right to refuse if he EVER sells it... I loved that car... was Manual, Low, B45s, damn quick and fun to drive... Wish I never sold it... But given the circumstances that I was in - I needed to... The guy who bought the car still has it, and I see it on a weekly basis... He looks after the car just like I did, and even seeing it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling... as well as feelings of regret... I WILL buy it back eventually... Just gotta wait till the time is right... I feel your pain PE... I'll see if I can find some photos of the old girl... was a great car...

back home I had a TVR Cerberra with the Tuscan lights.. I stupidly sold it in panic of spending too much cash in fuel (must be close to $2.50/litre back there) and then got the job here in Aus. tried to buy it back, and the guy was game as he was having the same problem, but because the logbook wouldnt have shown me owning it for 12 months consec I wouldnt have been able to bring it over :(
that and the supra I had when I was 18.. modded to about 450 rwhp, and was my pride and joy, but insurance was about $4400 a year : actually did buy that thing back, then sold it to try and buy a house/because the girflreind kicked up a fuss.. you live and you learn! |

I regret selling my ED XR6 5-speed manual :( Miss it! But atleast the new owner was an enthusiast from dubbo. He's reconditioned the car from the ground up now so the whole bodys pretty much resprayed, the DJR bodykit fixed and lookin schmick. Atleast I sold it to someone who could look after her the way i wanted to

My AUII XL Sports Edition ute. I spent a small fortune on that ute and sold it cause of the continual thermostat problems.
I used to see it around the Sunshine Coast towards Kawana end and it had gotten tinted windows and a towbar fitted to it, but haven't seen it since I left the Coast. I do scour Carsales every so often to see if it pops up but no luck yet. I really do want to buy it back if I ever see it for sale. The best car I ever owned.

I sold my XC GXL in 2003 for $4850.
Factory 351, 9inch, sunroof, autodrags & Platinum Blue with black cloth interior. The young fella I sold it to took it to summernats about 5 years ago & sold it on to another gent in Wagga Wagga apparently. It's now got number plates XCQTOR I think.

i regret selling my EB Ghia 347. The guy i sold it to used it as a burnout car then removed the engine and crushed it. He offered the engine back to me later on MINUS the edelbrock performer heads, for more than i sold the entire car to him for a year or so earlier.

I swapped my car a few years ago.. 2008 IIRC. For an ED Fairmont 347 Stroker.. Lots of power, lots of work done. Fast..! But it wasn't my Fairlane..
Anyway, after 3-4 months of owning the ED (and missing the fairlane) I decided to put the ED up for sale. The old owner of the ED (the guy who had my fairlane) called saying he was going to sell my fairlane, and if I wanted to buy it I could. Now, I jumped at the chance. I believe the conversation went something like this. Me- "yeah I would like to buy it back mate.." Him. "Ok, we'll sort something out" Me. "Hey better still, you want your car back..?" Him. "Why? You wanna swap back?" Me. "Yep...! you..?" Him. "Yep..!" The rest is history I guess.. He got his car back that he had put a lot of money and time into, and I got mine back too.. All worked out well in the end!!

Good thread.
I swapped my canary yellow XC for an unreg XE wagon with bald tyres! Sold my XD ESP 5 years ago for 800! My dad gave me my ED fairmont 5 years ago and i will NEVER EVER sell her! I love that car like it's a part of me. I don't even like parking it where i can not see it. I would like to find and buy the XC back but that was in 97! EDIT. And i sold my XW fairmont in 96 for.....500! |

i once (early `80s ) sold an XW ( my second car ) to a mate for $1400, then about a year later he traded it on a torana hatchback. i was going past the dealer and spotted my old car and asked how much they were selling it for? = $300 ... so i took it home with me . it was a great car to drive with a modded 250 / single rail / 9" / race seats, etc but the paint was stuffed. i used it as a second car driving to work etc for about another year before selling it again to another mate for $1400.
i sold a `56 mainline ute project car about the same time that i have been kicking myself for ever since.

I never plan to get rid of my current car.
It's a AUII Fairmont, it's a part of my life and would regret it if I EVER got rid of it. |

I regret selling my first car for almost nothing. 1965 Cortina GT. The people I sold it to sent it to the recycler.
I regret selling my 1974 Escort Panelvan that I'd put so much customising work into. The guy I sold it to stripped it and lost heaps of parts. I did buy it back, only to discover he'd lost the VIN plates aswell. I really regret selling my 351 XC Sundowner Panelvan. Had to sell it as my first child was expected and there's nowhere to fit a baby capsule in a decked out panelvan. The guy I sold it to spent the next two days with it doing donuts in his backyard with the aircleaner off, then tried to drive it to Brisbane on the third day after putting a hole in the radiator. Needless to say he didn't get far before it died in a big way. He had the engine rebuilt (It only had 1500km on the previous rebuild). The mechanic stole all the good gear off the engine, the lumpy custom grind cam, the 4V heads, the edlebrock intake, the Holley. It wasn't half the engine it was. he eventually crashed it into a pole at speed and put the engine between the seats. I cried :'(

My first car was a EA S-Pack when I was 17, mint condition only 150,000kms, factory manual and MPI. Ended up trying to turbo it when I was 18 and couldn't afford to finish it off properly so sold it off to another forum member.
Ended up missing it heaps and wanting to buy it back but the new owner didn't wanna sell it, in the end the new owner got over it, stripped all the good bits off it, and I bought it back completely buggered for $200. Now i'm in a better position and have managed to mod it, recently made 353rwkw on a race tune and am hoping for a 10 second pass next time I race it

Strangely, the only car I regret selling is my old EL Gli sedan. It was a low k mint example of a Falcon that only needed new shocks & suspension work. But my stupid younger self failed to work that out, and insisted on going further into debt (the reason i bought the EL was achieve the opposite) and get a new car instead.

I miss my 5 speed ED GLi. I spent close to 20k turning it into a XR6 replica. Used to rev like a banshee with close to 300kms on it. Kept my turbo mates honest! Sold it to the chick across the street after I got my XR8. She loved it so much! but sadly it got rear ended by a truck last year and has fallen into disrepair.

Some great, and some sad, stories on here.
I have been haunted by a car, as in it popped up almost teasing me to buy it again. I had a '90 MX5 which I did a fair bit to (coilovers, adjustable sways, engineered race seats & 16x8's, lightwieght stereo, 1.5way Mazdaspeed LSD, jap import motor w/head & intake mods, quiet & light exhuast, short shift, HD clutch ready for turbo, respray etc. etc.) - I look at old photos and am impressed with my restraint - while my mates were ricing stuff up, this thing would still look good now as I didn't mess with it too much (except for that one photo with borrowed 18" chromies!). I sold it to a nong who knew nothing about cars other than he liked this one (influenced by an ex girlfriend. Should have sold her, but she was worthless). He had two accidents in six months then traded it on a new Volvo S40. My mates told me about it landing on Parramatta Rd, some good gear stripped, and a few details stuffed, for 2k more than I had sold it for. Fast forward another two years and I am on my way to look at another used car, and I see it on the side of the road, a hundred kays from home, with a tempting price. I took a photo and moved on. Five years later I have just picked up my latest car, and driving home, it appears again on the side of the road. This time it's serious though, the price is half what I sold it for. Most of the good gear is stripped out, but it's still "my car"....... Anyhow, last I saw of it, it had been bought by an old bloke who has it serviced by Mazda (when I sold it there wasn't much Mazda left on it!) and enjoys it. It slid through a few greasy hands to get there but I think it's found a good owner now. Just like I can't go back to being 20 like I was when I bought it, buying that car back wouldn't be the same. And now with kids and etc, I could not throw whole pay packets at it and spend full weekends and weeknights mucking around with it. I say that now, but if I see that sucker on the side of the road again........ The other regret - letting go of my Poly Green EF 5spd on gas for a grand because it needed new suspension bushes and a little rust work. That car gave me loyalty, and I owed it more in return.

First car XE falcon, with 302 clev. Loved it. Had a thousand and one little problems.
Sold it. Bought it back. Sold it. Now want it back so bad. Anyway to find out where it currently is? I have the plates that were on it, so that's useless. No idea who I sold it too either. Any methods on how to chase it up? |

I've not regretted selling any of my cars but I've just bought a new XR6 50th edition and I have to sell my WRX. I've had this car for 11 years, way longer than any of the others. I think there will be times when I'll miss the car but I don't think I'll regret it. It's time to move onto my first Ford

Well guys, this Saturday I'll be going to inspect the S-XR6 (and hopefully buy it if it's still in good nick).
Wish me luck guys, I'm hoping that the bloke isn't BSing me when he says it is in the exact condition I sold it in.

I had a beautiful 1974 Copper Bronze LTD that was sitting in my front yard for 18 months since I purchased a Landau. My next door neighbour asked me if I could do it up as a wedding car for their wedding (to go with the Landau) so i resprayed it and put a fresh motor & gearbox in it, widened the original rims to 8" and put fresh Yokies on it. After the wedding they offered me good money for it so I handed possession over to them.
And then regretted seeing it every day afterwards. They kept it clean and polished but had no mechanical ability so the car started going downhill. They ran into money problems 2 years later and I gave them the money the afternoon they told me it was up for sale. It was good they gave me first option on it. I still own it today

I'm putting my VL up for sale soon (Want a newer car). Owned it for 8 years and I know there'll be times where I'll think "Why did I sell it?".
It's been a fantastic car. I basically learned how to drive in it. |

Mark my words Ryan, a car you have owned for that long with that many memories attached to it, you'll definitely regret selling it.
