I went to a Halloween party on saturday night at a friends place.
Was good fun. We all got dressed up like zombies, corpses or whatever, and looked fantastic/stupid, had a few drinks, caught up with friends, and there was even a fire twirling display in the backyard by one of the guys attending. It was great to be silly and have a bit of fun for the night, but of course any excuse for a party is always good. As for the kids trick or treating and such, I never did it, and I wouldn't allow any kids I ever have to do it either.

It's a harmless night where kids can have a lot of fun and get out and meet their community. It also seems that the majority of resistance of it is because it makes us more 'Americanised'. We're on the Internet people, look up where Halloween actually originates from. My parents are from Scotland, and I knew about Halloween well before the first Simpsons Halloween episode, but if we want to get serious about all this Americanised BS, we should organise a posse to round up as many Santas and stone them (I believe the Americans celebrate that in late December sometime) so be on the lookout. |

When the poms sailed to 'The New World' and settled the Americas it grew from there. These days it has become more commercialised due to American influence.

As I said in another thread last year, my neighbourhood isn't known for being a nice community-minded, friendly place. I could point out heaps of places around me that were the scenes of drive-by's, gang rapes, shootings, fire bombings, police raids... All within a 5 minute drive from here. Three houses in my street alone have been raided by the MEO crime squad this year. If my kids wanted to do something for it, then they might get a party at home with their friends where they could dress up, but they wouldn't be out knocking on strangers' doors.

It may not be technically "American" but I would assume the vast majority of people don't know the real roots of this day.
Same like saying that spaghetti was invented by the Italians (even though technically it was invented by the Chinese many Eons befor the Italians) Or LG is the initials for Lifes Good (Even though the roots of the company were Goldstar, and LG actually stands for Lucky Goldstar). Splitting hairs I know. But you ask 100 people where Halloween comes from and they will say Halloween = American. No one has actually come to my house as yet.... I'll be curious as to how many kids in reality actually go out "trick or treating". |

And it is not ignorance. Although Halloween may have been historically started outside the US, it is the Americans who have turned it into what it is. So this is their tradition which does not belong here. FF |

Coming into my street this arvo, I see a bunch of Muslim kids wearing there "rag" gear, and doing some door knocking. So how come they now want "our" traditions now, but never at other times?
And....I just had some mongrels knocking on my door, then they leave and egg my front window. It wont happen again!!

last year some little sh!ts [about 15] came to my house for trick and treat and i told them politely that i didn't have anything for them because i don't believe in celebrating holloween. when they left they trashed my letter box. so this year i was ready. when some others tried to throw eggs at my house i pelted them with water bombs [water and lime coloured clothes dye]. score me 1 - losers 0. next year i might try bricks.lol.

Are you for eliminating Christmas? Have a look at your TV and see where all the Christmas specials come from. So what is our sense of identity, apart from ignorance? |

ok so it's a festival, of the dead !!!!! that explains why they dress as zombies and mummies and whiches .
whichcraft is rife in america . which is deemed a religion by the people practicing it . lots of woman , believe they are whitches and have hijacked holloween as a day of celibration . be it right or wrong . they have hijacked it . it is also rebelious , against christianity, muslim, and many other religions. known as a paganistic ritual which celebrates the occult . as evil as this sounds if you dig deep enough , santa and christmas is also anti god . if your non religious it is harmless . unless your a witch, because then it is your worship. if you are religious . it is satanic, just like other rituals such as xmas. but it is deemed more evil in nature . , because santa isn't sa ghost or a zombie . ( but in reality they are supposedly both bad . what i find worse than all of this , is the fact that kids are just in it for the lollies . hahaha. not really . what i find worse than all of these is that these days parents have to go and supervise thier kids . WTF . do we have a sexual pedifile, or murderer in every street . now . this is a sad story. personally if the kids have fun , it's ok with me . but i dont really endorse it . it rates about as much as thanks giving, or , hunnaka. or chinese new year. if seen from a battle point of veiw though . the witches and pafganists would see it as one up for them , and hopefully more people would get intoi witchcraft. and the churches would see it is one down to them . losing christians and other religions to paganism . have i fooked with your minds enough yet. ??????????? |

BAAH HUMBUG to you all!!!
never seen such a bunch of wingers & i work with a lot of women! flame suit on now.. deadset... an event like this is for the kiddies to have an afternoon doing something they don't normally do & i bet they all love every minute of it. i have a 2 yr old & when she is ols enough I'll dress up with her & take her around the street for trick or treat IF SHE WANTS TO.. as far as the diet/getting too fat from 1 day of doing this give me a break........ as far as americanised..HELLO we live in a GLOBAL environment in 2007, get your head out of the sand. the parents of obese kids should stop giving them maccas's daily, etc instead of a BALANCED diet, balanced meaning everything in moderation. something like haloween is to be enjoyed for what it is to the kids, not frowned upon by a bunch of whingers...! nowo i have said my bit feel free to try & flame me!

i had a group of 4 kids knock @ my door, dad and the family dog waited on the street. I had a bag of Snakes Alive that I put into a bowl just incase.. I handed over the sweets to the kids and they were most polite and gracious AND didn't take them all either:P .. About half an hour later their old man knocked on the door to thank me for my 'donation'.. We had a 5 minute chat about where they lived, the neighbourhood etc over a snake lollie or two.
For the 5 bucks it cost me for the bag of sweets it was a money well spent.. I worry about the attitude of some of you and/or the areas you must live in :(

wtf?? Since when has CHRISTmas been considered anti Christian? Do you know what it’s all about? I heard somewhere it’s the celebration of the birth of Christ. Just so you all know I’m not some bible basher, I don’t celebrate Christmas or any other religious holiday. But I do know a lot about a lot of FAIRY TALES which millions of people base there lives around. |
